The admin handling /777/ left abruptly, so we're starting over!

Start posting new /777/ suggestions and I'll change the board next week.
(I'll ban for /sports/)

/food/, /home/ and /sports/ are all terrible. Stop suggesting them, your post will be deleted and you'll be banned.

12th Oct. 2013 - New Admin post, list of considered future /777/s, check it out.

We could have a news years resolution / happy new year board. It wouldn't need to last more than a week or so. A lot of dumb or drunk postings, and then it gets wiped clean a few days after the year change. Which is about as long as most resolutions last.

Hey dude, I've noticed we have a cosmopolitan culture going on here. And we're people who like to advance our brains. I was hoping we could get a language board going so we can help each other learn new vocabulary.
Also there are many bilingual and trilingual people who visit this site, and it'd be awesome because they'd probably visit the language board and give us hip ways to speak in their language.

Can we have a happiness board,. I try cheering people up in /rnb/ but it's a little overwhelming sometimes. It'd be nice if we can have ap\ place where we post celebratory threads and kick out negative, passive-aggressive, mocking, mean posts.
A board that covers the opposite end of the emotional spectrum?

I like seeing posts where people say "I talked to the girl I've been trying to meet for the past week" And then we can all high five one another.
Or "I just ate pizza!" Everyone: (High five, high five, high five)

right /eh/ is mundane I think the best posts are the ones that barely create any conversation because they're so damn boring to talk about. That makes eh really funny. But what I'm thinking, in the love and happiness board, it'd just be too emotional to compare with eh. we can't have that kind of emotion in /eh/ no sir. Enthusiasm doesn't seem to... sit well with John.

1960s it is

The birth of the internet:

"Research into packet switching started in the early 1960s and packet switched networks such as ARPANET, Mark I at NPL in the UK,[6] CYCLADES,[7][8] Merit Network,[9] Tymnet, and Telenet, were developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s using a variety of protocols. The ARPANET in particular led to the development of protocols for internetworking, where multiple separate networks could be joined together into a network of networks."

So you're trying to make three boards into two?
History, Global Culture, Current Events.

You're putting History and Global Culture together and leaving Current Events on its own. I would prefer History and Current Events as one, because the two are very closely linked. The Global Culture board is mostly about languages and racism.

I suggest we turn the current failtrain into a general multipurpose game server. On the board we can hold votes and have the failtrain server host whatever game is voted on.

Okay, it's time for a new /777/, the ideas in this thread are fucking awful so I've picked out the least fucking awful ones and decided that these might make boards that only suck a little. Pick one of the following as what you'd like to see next, if you don't I'll pick one at random:

/fetish/ - For all you sick bastards and your sick fetishes
/tech/ - For all you nerd bastards and your nerd toys and shit
/pasta/ - For all you unimaginative bastards out there and your copy pasta.
/grit/ For all you manly man bastards and your manly man chest hair.

I like the idea but I was thinking of narrowing it to just a Photography board would be nice since /me/ just seems to be mostly music and film.
It could cover Photos, photoshoppin' and the faggotry that that entails, and maybe a request and high res request thread at the top so that shit won't flood the board. it could be /p/ , /ph/ , /hip/ , /hipster/
I don't mind the that "counterculture" too, might be a good place to poke find at photos like that.
maybe. If that turns to shit then expand to bring in more traffic from art and regulate it to more fine art photography rather than commercial.

No. There's too much happiness on this site already. We need more cold stuff, more darkness and unhappiness.
I propose a /grim/ board. Where we gather to share jokes that aren't funny. Grim stuff like gore perhaps. Murder stories. Genocide. Results of war. Pictures of areas in the dark. Pictures of crumbling ruins. Pictures of thing that are decreasing in value or are stagnant in value in the sense that they cannot get any more undesired. Also, Nigrachan is obligatory.

Even if this gets rejected, I don't want to see a /jokes/ or /funny/ board to shit up the site.

I say this because I notice a lot of websites out there that get plenty of traffic like Effortlessgent and Artofmanliness, but most of their solutions are very complex or expensive to an average joe.

Continuing on from this post (and adding the not-shit suggestions from below it).

/tech/ - For all you nerd bastards and your nerd toys and shit
/pasta/ - For all you unimaginative bastards out there and your copy pasta.
/grit/ - For all you manly man bastards and your manly man chest hair.
/home/ - For all you stay at home basement dwellers out there who want to know about homecare, gardening, cooking and other home related shit.
/photography/ - For all you camera wielding nerds. High-Res images and all that other stuff too.
/space/ - For all you wannabe astronauts, and home-made rocket fans.
/vroom/ - For all you gearheads (petrolheads) and general automotive discussion.

I'm not so sure about the /vroom/ one, should it be just cars, or Planes, Trains and auto mobiles, or just anything with an engine that goes fast?

It's up to you guys to pick one of these, if you don't I'll pick one at random (it will be at random too, I'll roll a die or some shit).
Also: Keep posting your ideas for new /777/s regularly, I slacked off for a bit but I'm back now and I'd like some not-terrible ideas.

/tech/ sounds good.
/pasta/ sounds awful.
/grit/ sounds fun, but no one on the internet is exactly manly.
Didn't we try /home/ recently, and it was dreadful?
/photography/ could be combined with /tech/ as a thread. Perhaps /gadget would be a better idea?
/space/ could easily be a thread or two on /science/
/vroom/ sounds good, combustion engine general.

We have a board for when you're sad or angry /rnb/, we have a board for when you're feeling morbid /grim/, we have a board for when you're feeling none of those things /eh/, what about the people who have good news? What about the people who use to visit /rnb/ every night but then was able to do something about it? A place where people can be happy for each other! "Yeah! You got the girl, way to go!" or "Congratulations on getting out into the world!"

...course I'm just in a very happy mood right now and I just want to share it, but it's probably a shit idea for a board.

I don't necessarily agree with this idea, and it seems like it could run into some serious problems seriously fast.
That being said, I often hear accusations that some things perpetuate rape culture.
I guess if rape is a culture it could possibly have a board.
It's a really dangerous idea to implement on a site of this size. Maybe you can try experimenting with this idea by making a reddit whatever-they're called (sub-reddits?). If you can keep it under control for like a month of regular activity, maybe it can be considered.

I had an idea for /job/ once, for talk about getting jobs, finding jobs, how company X treats you as a valued member of their hard working team, etc.

/school/ - educational board (free online courses, .pdf's, educational pursuits/advice)

I don't go to /fail/ with any kind of regularity, make no mistake. However, when I do go there (let's be honest, 7chan doesn't have alot of traffic), or anywhere on 7chan, it's mostly to pass the time. I just think, despite being a "joke board", or whatever you want to call it, it's awful, and it should be removed. As many legitimate board ideas that have been proposed and killed, and how /fail/ still stays, despite being a board serving no practical purpose (other than dancing letters), is beyond me. It makes 4chan's /b/ look good.

Say what you will, ban me and delete my post if you please, but there is no good reason for such an absolute shitstain board on an otherwise decent *chan.

I'm not making a new /777/ yet, this is just for reference, use this as a guide, let me know if you think the ideas are good etc...
I figure this list is big enough now to warrant some sort of explanation for my sorting of it, strikeout text means it's been done (so never again,) I like it but I'm not sure, others seem to like it, I like it and so do other people (so it'll probably get a trial at some stage.)

/daydreams/ - For your daydreams, "potentially "interesting", yet very /eh/".
/ha/ - For all you Class Clowns (General Comedy board) .
/cynical/ - For cynicism about current events (and just general cynicism).
/prep/ - For doomsday preppers who aren't caught up with Zombies. "preparation for the inevitable apocalypse that's definitely coming this year, I swear (but I guess this falls under /zom/ and /w/)".
/hobby/ - Hobbies? I don't really think this one's a good shout but I'm more than half way through this sentence so it stays on the list.
/lifehack/ - For general "lifehack" shit.
/creative/ - For creative shit, I think.. I need to ask Brutalis to expand more on this again, but it sounded good months ago.
/necro/ - For threads that aren't enough for a board, but don't have a home (>>6856).
/web/ - A place to share cool shit we found websurfing (might become a shit /b/ though).

Remember to keep the suggestions coming.

/photography/ - I'm not too big on photography, but I'm sure others would enjoy it
/space/ - We did it recently, and by recently I mean like a year ago
/vroom/ - Same as the above
/dream/ - Could easily be a thread on /b/ and all the "explain my dream" or lucid dreaming is covered by /x/
/daydreams/ - What would this board be? Discussion of daydreams? Very narrow topic
/ha/ - I've vouched for this time and again, and I will vouch for it once more
/cynical/ - Could be hilarious
/prep/ - Would be better as part of a /outside/ board, discussion of survival techniques, gear, walking trails etc
/hobby/ - Too broad
/lifehack/ - There are only so many lifehack images, it'd get very stale very quickly
/necro/ - Really, that's just another /b/. Random crap that doesn't deserve it's own board.
/web/ - Most of this site is based around charing cool shit we've found on the web, so this is rather redundant.

/creative/ would be for general creativity. Arts stuff, sculpting, architechture and the like. A place to show off your pretty pictures or music you've written etc

And, of course, they didn't come to stay.

>/creative/ would be for general creativity. Arts stuff, sculpting, architechture and the like. A place to show off your pretty pictures or music you've written etc
The precedent here is that there are threads on /me/ for sharing your musical creations, and perhaps even /gfx/ shows that drawing/painting creations could be a hit. Now, we see that /photo/ could be encompassed within this area (of own artistic creation) and there you have a quite general board with decent chances of success and a somewhat clear outlining of its topic, differentiated from /me/ and /gfx/.
But is it /art/ OR /creative/? The former, where one goes to experience cultural creations of other people of the past and the present, maybe where you can (being allowed by board rules) share your own 'experiments' of artistic creation; the latter, where only the last part of that /art/ would be allowed.

>How about a halloween board?

>Then how about a seasonal-themed board /777seasonal/?
Let's see. This would be a separate board from /777/, necessarily changing topic AT LEAST with the change of every 'natural' season change (Springs/Summers/Autumns/Winters). An admin or a mod (given the necessary minimal powers) would do this, while he could as well change the board topic any time he or the general populace wanted to celebrate a particular season, festivity, holiday, etc. Perhaps to keep it fun and entertaining, it could get custom CSS, music, etc that are relevant to the particular day/celebration going on at the board.

In the case that this idea is too silly or not plausible, just for this year's Halloween instead of reserving /777/ for it, maybe give /grim/ a themed little temporary CSS makeup: embedded spooky images, music (spooky scary skeletons/Monster Mash/...), orange colors in place of original red; there's still time to imagine and to do what and how.

/Necro/ sounds like a plausible side-board. The argument though is which threads you make (failed 777's plus the long dead toys/cooking/etc. would be a good start).

That said, there's no reason you can't make a request thread in /N/ for /N/ threads. As long as the threads can be bumped without limits mods should be able to create as many as requested with the old defunct ones naturally falling of the last page (until requested again).

Threads that fail to die can then be promoted to /777/.

START: over-thinking
- Change /777/ requests to /N/ Requests
- Create the threads in /N/
- Old/dead threads fall off the back page
- Threads that stay continuously active can get promoted to /777/ at mod discretion.

As long as some mod is prepared to look over the requests and create a new /N/ thread every week or so it should be fairly simple to manage.
END: over-thinking

you should be more concerned of getting the current boards even somewhat active instead of creating new ones.
