Because my CORRECT opinion is that anything involving giant robots is fundamentally rotten (exceptions exist according to whim). Plus, I watched fumoffu and then everything else. I thought it was all comedy. I was wrong. And I was massively let down. This disappointment completely unrelated to the quality of the series colored my viewpoint towards it with disgust, turning what would normally be an above-average mecha series (still awful, because it's a mecha series) into a steaming pile of dogshit, in my CORRECT opinion.

It's funny, since you'd think that without human-like eyes you wouldn't be able to read his expressions, but he actually is one of the most expressive/emotional people in the entire cast. He just gives a fuck, about justice, about machines, about the past - and yeah, about Motoko. (I thiiiink he's the only person to ever call her by name instead of 'Major' in SAC.) And in every canon, every time she runs off to do something crazy (connect to the Puppeteer or Kuze, or just run off and try to be an hero) he's right behind her, backing her up, even if he thinks she's being ridiculous.

He has a kind albeit twisted personality in everyday affairs, but he shows himself to be completely willing to kill his best friend's grandson if said person threatened to impede his revenge.

He's a savage killer but at the same time he claims to have standards, and because of his character's ambiguity he's always intriguing to watch. I plan to watch Ultimate once they've finished the series.

He is a really great character, but so much of the shit he's involved with is too confusing to make him as appealing as he should be. I mean, is the evil personality in the ring the thief king Bakura, or is it Zork? Or the masked priest? I never understood that.

Not to mention that the guy himself, not the spirit of the ring, doesn't get much character development (aside from loving games as much as Yugi), and after a certain point, he's nothing but a wooden character that fills space until the spirit of the ring can take over and cause trouble. Don't get me wrong, a huge part of his appeal is the spirit in the ring, but if one half of the person is boring, it weakens how great the other half is. And Bakura is a great gamer. He could have, and should have, done some awesome shit on his own.
