How about some anime heroines who are more than some basement dweller's fap material and actually contribute to the plot of their shows? Few things irritate me as much as the shrieking, weak girl characters that exist merely to be clumsy and get in the way of protagonists. Not that every woman has to be Terminator 2 Sarah-fucking-Connor, of course, but I'd at least like less of Terminator 1 Sarah in my anime, you know?
I was thinking about this when watching Bubblegum Crisis (the original OVA). I'd hardly call it a radical Feminist show or anything, but the girls felt like more than fetish material - not something I would say when watching BCT2040, which actually put me off the series for a long while. And before this turns into another typical moe vs 80s/90s anime thread, I don't think it's even as clear as that - Misaka in the Raildex franchise is as tough as an shounen hero, while Gundam and Macross both have their fair share of whiny damsel in distress types. So how about it, who's you favourite tough heroine, /a/?
