Happy Full Sturgeon Moon 7chan!

This months full moon is called the Sturgeon moon because local Indian tribes around the great lakes gave it that name because the fish was the most plentifully caught at this time.

I am sure some of you are excited for this full moon, but the real sky treat is coming up on August 21st. I'm sure some of you already know what it is! (โŽหƒแ†บห‚) I know I have heard the tv, newspapers, celebrities and random people talking about this exciting upcoming event!
Yep! Yep! Yep! ๐ŸŒ‘ Its a total solar eclipse!!! ๐ŸŒ‘ Why is it so special you say? Aren't there at least 2 every calendar year you murmur? Yes, there are usually anywhere from 2 to 5 each year. This will be ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ "The Great American Total Eclipse" ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ because the path of totality will parade across the USA from Oregon to South Carolina! Even better, the 70 mile wide path of totality is going to be hitting many populated centers and small town USA. There are already preparations being put in place for the expected "Eclipse Tourism" that there is bound to be around the states in the shade path.

Remember, you have to be in the path of totality to get the full effect. For the best viewing, you should get eclipse glasses for the time leading up to and after the event. There are literally millions of them being handed out for free at your local library, observatories, grocery stores and public health departments. You can also purchase them online if ya want! :)

Normally, I would not be able to see this spectacle. But it just so happens I will be flying out to Portland, Oregon for work and will be able to make the drive out of town to see it!

Are any of you in the path or going to make a flight or drive to see it??? Lets all have a wonderful viewing of the full moon and upcoming eclipse ok?! โˆ ( แ› ใ€

Wish I could get away from work to make the trip.
Know of any good webcams for the show?

Once again, I will be missing this due to my location. My lord it's like I'm destined to never see a celestial event!

As someone that grew up in Port Austin, MI. I can tell you that there are no sturgeon left, they were gone a genwration before me. Over fished and then the pollution did the rest in.

The boom cities of my grandparents, Toledo, Detroit, and Flint where my parents grew up are all now wastelands. All at the expents of a decade and a half of good business. What do we have to show for it? A lake Huron full of slime algae and fish you cant eat.

The moon looks oddly orange. I still don't know how that happens. Or maybe I forgot.

Unfortunately I'm on the wrong continent for that eclipse. I saw a solar eclipse once when I was on holiday but that was almost 20 years ago, still waiting for the next opportunity.

Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

Only a few more hours and I will be flying out to Portland!

>>771096
Don't fret! There will always be more celestial events that most of the world will be able to see. Keep your eyes open! :)

>>771098
I've heard about that long ago when I was reading up about the name. Sad.

>>771179
That sounds fun! Not sure it would be convenient for many people though. Do you have any recommendations of nice parks or areas between Portland and Salem I should check out? Perhaps I should drive towards the coast?

>>771556
That must be neat in some ways though. Are there still any law benefits or tax savings on goods that makes the drive to Canada worthwhile?

See you all later when the event grows nearer! ~(=^โ€ฅ^)/

I'm >>771556. Canadians usually come here to do their shopping, actually. Some stores even have a separate cash drawer for Canadian money! If things get really bad here in the States, I can always make my way to the border and demand political asylum!

Neat! Eclipse pictures coming soon! They are not so good, but one I particularly like has Mt. Hood (I think) in the lower area too with a nice blue ring!

>>771938
Yes I did! :) England was very nice. Did you mention the Eden Project? I went there and it was fun to visit the biodomes. It really felt like it was setup more for education than anything. I saw most of the country south of London into Cornwall. Going back to Germany for the 3rd time was nice and my new trip through Luxembourg and Amsterdam was really fun! Still plenty left to see next time! (๏พ‰ยดใƒฎยด)๏พ‰*:๏ฝฅ๏พŸโœง
