I've taken up indoor gardening. I'd like to get into bonsai making, the idea of a little tree has always intrigued me.

You should look into planted aquariums, they're pretty fun. I breed shrimp while growing plants.

Don't those bonsai trees require quite a bit of care? Or is it more of a hands off thing?

Whatever is needed. I repaired my office chair with steel braces, I put up shelving as it's needed, I cut wood and sharped my own blades (hatchet and splitting maul), I built a few spice racks and put them up, I repaired a few holes in the walls with filler and sanded them down / painted over them.

How big are the spice racks? I actually have to buy one this week, my pantry is filling up and I can't keep track of them all accurately.

I made two which look like this, and a third which was larger but with smaller shelves. The third one I polished and varnished properly.

Looks good, how did you get into woodworking and DIY stuff? Did you just fix something one day and decide that you're good at it and that you like it? My wife wants me to buy one of those spice racks that spin, I don't really know why it needs to spin but whatever.

My dad was fairly handy and taught me the basics, over the years I was cornered into doing jobs by my mother such as putting up shelves and fixing things. Over the years I acquired cheap tools, often from discount stores or second hand and kept them in good repair. Much of what I built was down to necessity as I was broke as airwolf for years and needed to fix things rather than replace them.

As for the woodwork, I got lucky a few years back because some guy bought 3 houses near me and gutted them, he gave me all the timber from those houses to me so I could burn it. I used it to make all kinds of things and get plenty of practice.

I've been thinking of doing my own. Just some 10 fences, maybe some razor wire. Been thinking of building a bunker.

You do anything like that before or are you just super handy? Also, do you work as an artisan or is it solely a hobby?

symbion 17/08/14(Mon)00:54 No. 771587

No, just the burnable materials, my house at the time was powered by a back-boiler and hadn't much insulation, so it relied on keeping a roaring fire going for most of the winter. That wood, mixed with coal kept the radiators warm and the water hot for several winters.

>>771584
No but a semi fortified and self sufficient home is my plan when I do own my own house. Especially a vegetable garden, chickens and a disaster kit. I already have a small disaster kit put together actually, for when SHTF. And no I don't work as an artisan, I've a degree in philosophy but I mostly just do computer repair because philosophy won't get you a job.

They just spend it all on hooch so they can drink themselves unconscious.
So in a way, beating them into a coma with a blunt object is the same prize.
But, better because it's free and possibly more fun.

Yeah but it really depends on whether or not you want a certain hobo to become the hobo juggernaut as a result of multiple fights and victories. There's a lot that goes into this kind of thing.
