Is imageboard culture dying?

When I see 4chan nowadays I just feel sad. Everything that made imageboards cool even just 6 or 7 years ago... it's all gone.

Traditional imageboard culture died a long time ago. That doesn't mean they won't continue to survive. That culture was never bound to survive long anyway. No culture is.

The format will be around forever. Anonymity and broad topics discussed, it makes most Internet forums look like anachronistic relics from the 1980's, if the 1980's ad internet.

You really, really think everyone will just be posting selfies on some data-mining website when alot of people just need the internet for a second to ask a question or pose a theorem to an audience right quick without giving up a credit card number or having their ideas stolen by the website they post on?

Revive imageboard culture? Just call posters niggers, because they're probably niggers. They glow in the dark.

Watch the movie, A Bronx Tail. It's basically like that.

First Gen, off the boat immigrants had to work hard and be creative to carve out a space that was theirs, within a strange and harsh frontier.
Second Gen, wants to work hard to honor the hard work and greatness of the First Gen, and preserve their legacy by maintaining values and ethic of the First Gen Old World, but also want to make a world where Third Gen does not have to suffer like First.
The Third Gen comes into the 'perfect world' and, regardless of the indoctrination of a Second Gen version of First Gen values, and not only has no context for, but is incapable of having, any of those values that were utilized for the creation of the 'perfect world'. And the entire system goes to shit, just like in Idiocracy. To the Third Gen, the first Gen are an ideal of a myth of cult following, and the Third Gen doesn't know why they are doing what they are doing, only that, this is always the way its been done(right?)

I'd say it's pretty damn popular around the world.

>Everything that made imageboards cool even just 6 or 7 years ago... it's all gone.
Times change. There are still good imageboards out there. 4chan is not a good example.

It's conceivable that there are people out there who might be looking for a more anonymous internet experience for the first time right now. That's especially easy to imagine in the wake of having it shoved in their face that data posted on Facebook could be used by groups that make them feel icky.

Where does that leave you, the oldfag? You have an opportunity to either mold a generation in your own image or leave them to their own devices and come up with something even more cancerous than what's already come before.

Time brings newfags and spreads cancer, it is a simple fact.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though; the trend by and large is toward being yourself online. Posting your face, using your real name, sharing the location of your home and place of work, even sharing your current gps location have all become par course for daily internet usage for most people. Those people won't be coming here, not in big numbers--anonymity is foriegn to them, and will not satisfy their vanity. They will go back to their shamebook; there's no escaping it.

Imageboard culture is different than it was 6 or 7 years ago, but I wouldn't say that means it's dying. The culture is more powerful than ever and spawned the modern meme culture. A lot of the stuff you probably feel nostalgia for are relics of this society's past, not so much a relic of imageboards' pasts, as the boards are a reflection of the culture they swim in, often as the culture's negative.

4chan has been infiltrated by shills and is still sometimes good, 8chan is only growing stronger and their /pol/ board is extremely popular.
