Hello /class/ I was looking at getting a suit. My requirements.
1.This suit can be worn for business and social events.
2.I'd like to to be under 400 dollars.
3.It also needs to work with a bowtie or tie depending on the occasion.
4.It needs to be decently easy to clean. I dont want to always take it to the dry cleaners.
5.I'd like a minimum of 3 buttons

Some things I have in mind. I was looking at a white-ish beige color or grey that could work with black. I dont know of any good brands so if you could recommend one that would be awesome. And general ideas are accepted.

OP, go with two buttons. I myself thought three buttons would look better, but two works with everything. Also get some shoulder padding, even if you're muscular it look great. It's nice to have square shoulders when wearing a suit.

American cut, wide lapels
Look in a dollar store, you'r likely to find the quality you're thinking of there.

These.

I had a fine summer suit tailored for ~$200 in Thailand. 3-piece, silk (so, dry cleaning only unfortunately), customized detail, stash pockets. One year old, worn maybe a dozen times & quite worth it.

I purchased a three-button suit made from high quality, astoundingly comfortable tropical wool for 50 dollars second-hand, then brought it to a tailor to have it altered to fit. The total cost was less than 100 dollars.

Not everything in second-hand stores are hideously dated. Sometimes there are timeless classics waiting to be found.

My brother did this too, but in Singapore, an excellent idea if one happens to be there.

One observation I have regarding styles and cuts of dress clothing: while people of the internet and media seem to nitpick over things such as lapel-widths, number of buttons, natural shoulders versus Roman shoulders, pleats, etcetera, I have never met any person in reality who complained, not a single one. The fit though is very important.

Merc makes an okay suit,
If you like mod cut.

My best finds were from throft stores in and around san Francisco. Pay $5 for a jacket, $60 for tailoring, and you're set. Pic related.

Yeah if you want a suit to look good then you definitely need to have it tailored. It doesn't have to be expensive. A cheap-ish tailored suit will probably look better on you than a 3000 bucks Armani suit straight out of the outlet (unless you have it tailored, of course).

In order to wear a good suit from scratch, you must first create the universe.
