I think all opinions on whether or not this comic is inherently funny (or sad) aside, people should remember that at the heart of the matter, the writing style is written in a very sympathetic fashion with no real malicious intent. I think that fact alone outshines anything else. Where it gains its substance is the absurdly dark humor of the comic, which is why people continue to read it.

Weapon Brown, of course, is amazingly funny.

That doesn't happen. Clarissa is going to be fucked up mentally her entire life. And seeing as the comic is portrayed as a girl trying to somewhat mentally block what her father does to her she doesn't even seem normal. She seems to just not care about life in general. . .

Nothing. The point is that Clarissa's life is horrible and we feel for her. There's no "donate to RAINN" sticker at the end of the comic, there's no "Stop Child Abuse!" tag, no one is asking you for money or to join a neighborhood watch. It's just a story. It doesn't want anything from you.
