I'm not versed in these kinds of linux permissions Anonymous 13/04/11(Thu)09:45 No. 20215 ID: 99b2ce [Reply]

Am I being hacked or something?

See pic <---------

$ ls -l /mnt
ls: cannot access /mnt/win: Permission denied
total 0
drwxrwxrwx 1 nobody nobody 0 Apr 10 22:45 smbnet
d????????? ? ? ? ? ? win

it says I can't access this particular folder (/mnt/win) though ls displays the files in it just fine...

If you must know I've been trying to mount a samba share, so I won't refuse any help on doing that either.
Though, I'm just trying to figure out why ls -l is showing these kinds of permissions.

Oh man, I feel pretty stupid
Once I pkill'd the "smbnetfs" process I obtained normal access to these files.

I knew it was something this simple, though..

My most sincere apologies.

no need to apologize, most don't have a clue of basic commands, or whatever.

I spent years dumbing around when I should
know a lot.And wahe little patience or brainpower to stick with anything.

good luck keeping on

Stereo Mix issue? Anonymous 13/04/13(Sat)15:23 No. 20219 ID: 1480e8 [Reply]

So, I have Stereo Mix, but all of a sudden it's not working anymore. It shows up in my list of recording devices, but it doesn't show that it's picking up any sound and if I use anything to try to record from it, I get an error.

Weird thing is, it starts to work if I disable my actual microphone, but only then. And I'd like to be able to use both of them, because I was able to before.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention.
I'm using Windows 7.
And my onboard audio is Realtek ALC892, if that matters at all.

Hey /halp/, I'm hoping you may be able to help diagnose my issue here.
My laptop recently stopped working, the screen remains black even when I press the power button. The lights on the keyboard are on, as well the the light on the side by the adapter port. The light on the Caps Lock key is blinking.

Laptop is an HP Pavilion m6, AMD processor (not sure which model), and I was running Windows 7 64bit. It is under warranty from Best Buy, but there are no stores near my university.

Any ideas as to what the issue may be, or what may have caused it. Also if anyone has encountered a similar issue, how did you resolve it?

Thanks /halp/

Depends on what you mean by a hard reset.

If you mean performing a factory reset, then yes, it will wipe all your data from the system. But you perform a factory reset by booting off the HD's recovery partition and basically formatting the HD and reinstalling your OS/applications. If you don't have anything on the LCD, that's going to be hard to do.

If you mean discharging your system, then no. Your data is on your HD which is not affected when the system is removed from power. That's why your OS and data is kept on the HD and not kept in RAM. Most forms of RAM lose its contents when its disconnected from power.

So my computer is displaying all the signs of "fuck you, I don't love you anymore."

Trouble started with my torrents. I'm using BitTorrent as my client, I've got encryption checked, and running peerblock... and it's decided to now stop seeding and downloading. I also can't get on to certain other websites, and some video streaming services don't work either, which maks me think my ISP might be throttling my connection, or blocking my access to certain ports. I was using a private tracker (bakabt), but I was told it's a reputable service. I left this running for about a week to get my ratio up, and it seemed to be doing fine until I had to shut it off 2 days ago.

And because nothing can ever go wrong on its own, my computer now has an issue with explorer.exe, where you need to end it and start it on startup, because it gives me a black screen. I understand that the usual fix is to just copy the file from another Windows 7 computer, but unfortunately, I don't have any friends with such equipped computers. Is there another method to repairing this?

I would have... if I could torrent anything. Literally all my torents niether seed or download. Any advice on getting Century Link to fix my service? Or am I going to have to ask a friend to let me torrent it off their computer? I live in Central FL, so I think that I don't really have a choice, unless I want to switch to comcast. You know, 6 strikes Comcast.

Torrent? Windows 7? Why? Just download an official ISO from Digital River's web servers.

>>
Anonymous 13/04/08(Mon)22:33 No. 20202 ID: 10d6c2

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/28517-Windows-7-w-o-SP1-and-SP1-Media-Refresh-Direct-Download-Links

In case anyone is ignorant/confused/psychotic/paranoid, Digital River is a very large, well known, long established digital distributor. If you bought Windows 7 from Microsoft and wanted to just download an ISO (instead of having them ship you a DVD), you would end up downloading one of those files from digital river's servers.

Without a serial number the ISO by itself isn't particularly useful, which is why they've been sitting out in the open. I suspect the reason they've never been tucked behind a username/password is because MS would rather have everyone download official media than malware-infected pirated media, but that's just a hunch.

Hey /halp/

I'm trying to fix a friend's computer. Here's the background:

The computer itself is an i3 Toshiba. I don't have it on me atm but I'll update with full specs later (but it shouldn't be that important given the issue). She said that the computer has a virus, but I can't even get the computer to boot get rid of it.

When starting windows normally, I immediately get bluescreened, which tells me to run chkdsk /f. I ran diagnostic setup and it fixed jack shit, but gave me this error log:
----------------------------------------

Root cause found:
Unknown bugcheck: Bugcheck 1e. Parameters = 0xffffffffc0000005, a0xfffff80002cb3e45, 0x0, 0xffffffffffffffff

reinstall windows is far more simple option.
Half hour install or so.

Consider wiping the boot sector for a few minutes. The laptop would need drivers from
the website.

If there is a restore partition, I would delete it.

error codes are not worth messing with,
few understand them.

If trying to save data, programs can save data if one doesn't keep trying to make windows work, when it is not working right

My drive just started doing this today. Data isn't important enough to pay 1k+ for recovery, but I'd like it back. For some stupid reason, the HD I bought for 69.99 goes on eBay (used) for 260.00 WTF? Makes swapping logic boards a bit of a PITA...

Yea, anti-Adblocking it starting to gain momentum
Heard someone mention on a podcast, that some of these advertizement companies want to start lobbying against ad blocking software
maybe even start campaigns similar to the copyright trolls, sending notices to ISP's and threatening legal action, because it "hurts revenue"

After buying URL's, are there any 'free web hosts' that don't plaster ads everywhere?

>>
Anonymous 13/03/19(Tue)19:53 No. 20130 ID: 10d6c2

Buying URLs?

I'm going to assume you mean you bought a domain, since a Uniform Resource Locator is the complete string used to access a server on the internet (http://www.google.com/ is the URL, google.com is the domain).

Frankly, I don't know of any free web hosts that even accept standalone domains, the only ones I know of are subdomains of the webhosting firm's existing domains and they pay the bills via advertising on your site. But buck up little camper, paid - advertising-free - web hosting is available for as low as $2.99/mo.

lol Alexander Delarge 13/04/06(Sat)19:19 No. 20189 ID: e1cf73

2.99 a month will give you dial up quality bandwidth spend at least 10 bucks on a shared server for smoother operation if you get reasonable traffic. go hang out at digitalgangster forum and ask some of those kids how to flip a buck with a keyboard...

I'm a little concerned by how Google could probably construct a profile out of me with the data from my searches.
I'm not logged in to my Google account all the time, and I regularly flush that data. However, an IP is there.
Is google known to tie this data together?

I wonder if Google resoects the "Do Not Track" request that you can set modern browsers to put into all request headers?

I would be surprised. A lot of what Google makes money come from tracking people so they can deliver relevant ads and search results.

The most important thing is to not be signed in when you are using Google. They can't be 100% sure it's you that are searching that way. Cookies are also an issue of course but still not 100% reliable.

Since such requests are honored voluntarily, I'm sure you know what the answer to that is.

Especially since Google reluctantly implemented the Do Not Track feature in Chrome (though Microsoft dead last to implement it).

Oh for fuck's sake, another technical problem with Media Player Classic/CCCP.

All of a sudden I'm not getting any sound from it. Volume is up on the player and in the volume mixer. According to the volume mixer, sound is playing. Sound works fine for anything else. If I open up any of the files I'm trying to play in MPC, the sound works fine for the files. CCCP is up to date and I already tried uninstalling it and removing all the settings and then reinstalling it.

Does anybody have any idea what could've happened?

>>
Anonymous 13/04/05(Fri)15:21 No. 20185 ID: e04061

You could try the different options found in
MPC->View->Options->Playback->Output and then look at the pulldown menu for 'Audio Renderer'

>>
Anonymous 13/04/06(Sat)21:12 No. 20191 ID: c4902a

Ditch MPC and CCCP..... just use VLC or GOM.

I got rid of MPC/CCCP about a year ago (was having similar problems) and never looked back.
