>How did the facehugger get through Kane's helmet?
Those things have acid for blood and grip on with insane strength, I don't think it's that important to get the mechanical details of this?
>How did the Nostromo understand an alien distress call?
Either there are limited ways of communication in the universe, and a short repeated code can safely be assumed to be a distress call irregardless of source, or...
>How was Ash a sleeper cell if they hadn't yet received the distress call?
...Weyland-Yutani had already picked up the call and knew there was something there, so made sure to have the Nostromo trapse through that area with their mission's actual intent all along to have been the xenomorph recovery. The crew are obviously disposable, why assume their mission is any more important?
Personally I felt Prometheus had a lot more actual plot holes and speed bumps that I could forgive. The design was generally wonderful, but there were too many characters, too many unanswered questions and lazy writing (hello Lost alumnus!); I will admit there were some good performances, though I really wasn't a fan of Fassbender. I was expecting subtle, instead we got a cartoon bad guy who may as well have laughed maniacally any time he interacted 'innocently' with the characters.
The space jockey shit pissed me off though, they completely shat all over the mythology with that. Had a perfectly good alien race design and they ruin it by decided that's just a spacesuit that a generic humanoid wears, what the fuck?!
Despite the flaws, though, I did enjoy it, just nothing really clicked as much as did the original Alien. The costume design, even, fell flat; whereas the costume design in Alien is cohesive, yet interesting, Prometheus was just fucking 'casual Fridays' with no real feeling that they were a crew, more like a bunch of random passengers.
Ok, ok I need to shut up now, I can go on and on, but the thing is that I actually enjoyed it, in despite what I regard as some pretty major structural flaws. I look forward to the next movie, and I've gotta admit that the CG work didn't piss me off as much as it could have done. I think being so invested in the Alien franchise gave me hopes to high to reasonably expect them to be fufilled.
