why is every new movie from "the bay" in super long 2.35 : 1 aspect ratio now? is that the new standard or is it some sort of cropped bootleg stopgap from korea?

Maybe because the movies are ripped from theatre only discs in their format and it hasn't been converted to 16:9 home video format yet.

It's just a guess. I have no idea.

Could be. But I usually wait some time (I I stayed away from Avatar (which turned out to be the good move)/The Dark Knight) and still and I got raped in both of my eye sockets.
So yeah, I just went googlin', you can see the result on the pic.
