I think we need a thread dedicated to various resources that can be used for learning, practicing, recording, and anything else that can be of aid to fellow musicians. I'll start:

http://www.songsterr.com
Great guitar tab site that plays the song for you. Basically Guitar Pro without having to buy the program.

http://www.productiontrax.com
http://www.taxi.com
Two good sites for selling and buying royalty-free music.

Lastly, I have a complete guide on learning Logic. I'll dump it if the mods are okay with me posting 37 pdf files.

That's all for right now. I know I've got some good books lying around that I could list but I'm too lazy at the moment. I may list some more in a day or two.

Here you go, kids, you made it through the first hurtle. Use it or lose it.

Same rules apply:
This is not /me/. /me/ is for consumers and end users, 'I like this song' kind of bullshit. /mus/ is for music discussion; that is, playing, performing, and composing, techniques, methods, and sheet music (pdf isn't ideal, but it's better than forcing images).

When you play guitar high, do you "lose your hand" you know what i mean, it goes numb and it still strums but its really weird
>> No. 1227
no

the only trouble when i play high is that i lose my objectivity when it comes to deciding whether a riff is good or not.

Every riff is the best riff ive ever heard when im high

Have you ever done any other drugs? A lot of the bands I enjoy seemed to have experimented with psychedelics and shit, and I used to think that it would help with writing good music. Someone informed that this is not the case, and most of the time it's pretty futile to try and write while high.

I also found a couple of bands that wrote really creative, awesome, trippy shit supposedly without having ever even touched a drug. Another person had this discussion with me and told me that most of these musicians who use drugs already have the talent to write good music, so there's no cause/effect relationship between drugs and writing good music.

Dunno about good, but it's at least now bearable. Still, considering the source material, I consider that to be a feat more impressive than writing a truly good song from scratch.

Hey /mus/ I come here for help. I've been thinking about picking up an instrument for a while now, and have an absolutely fantastic Guitar teacher who has offered to teach me for free. I was thinking about playing Bass, but I like being center stage, I like the solos, and I've always been a bit of an eccentric. What would you recommend?

Thanks

I only mentioned that because I wanted to make it clear what a flamboyant person I was. If I ever get really good, playing the same few notes over and over isn't exactly my kinda she-bang. I know what you mean though, thanks for the advice.

Well I don't want to discourage you or anything is the thing. A lot of people pick up the guitar thinking they'll be blasting solos in the first month if they just practice "really really hard" and then get discouraged and quit. Learning to pace yourself is going to be a key element to succeeding with any instrument.

Anyway good luck with whatever you choose and be sure to post some noisefiles here once you're playing your own stuff.

>Gibsons and Les Pauls are for fags
What.
I'm not the guy you're responding to, but I love my SG. Not because it's a Gibson, but because I get a special feeling from the sound it makes that I don't with any other guitar.
>> No. 1211
i'm seconding what >>1206 said in the fact that too many people think gibson is the end-all-be-all guitar manufacturer. it seems as though everyone and their brother has a les fucking paul these days and what irritates me is that some insist on nothing else, not because they simply prefer the les, but because they just think it's the hottest shit out there. i've played nearly every major gibson model and they all sound good and play decent (i can attest to the poor wiring and construction of some, the toggle switch on my friend's les is fucked and only works as a poor man's killswitch now and one of the volume knobs rubs against the body) but i can immediately think of better companies with better guitars, better prices and better sound (see >>1149, i envy you). there's my two cents; carry on gentlemen.

Classical thread. What's your favourite composer, piece, period, etc. What instruments do you play and what is your favourite piece for your instrument? Pic related, it's mine.

Guitarists, don't post unless you can read treble and/or play all major/minor scales.

French Suites are great especially no2 in c minor i think.

Euphonium, wassuuuup.
I highly enjoy playing the Jupiter and Mars movements of Holst's Planet Suite.
I play trombone, but mostly ska and jazz, so ignore that.
I also recently gathered interest in Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy. Fun stuff.

I go by Greedy Kidney because well I didn't know what to go by and I did a band name generator - it was the first thing to pop up.

This is called Noon - The Whistle Song. I'll post more soon.

I'm kind of sick of hearing nothing but electronic/tecnho/metal in all these open mic threads, but this shit is AWESOME. I listened to it when I got out of bed in the morning, and I was like "WHAT THE FUCK." That third note in the sequence is fucking awesome, and it really makes the song. The only thing that would be really cool is if you expanded it by adding some kind of variation, or some kind of break in the song where maybe the drums keep going but the synth stops, and then do something even crazier with the voice during the break. Nicely done man.

>>1208
Fucking well done. You had my interest right from the start, and I love where you took the song. I don't even know what to say. Your music isn't annoying like the millions of other indie pop artists out there. I am actually listening to your music over and over, and I think I'm pretty picky when it comes to new music.

You have a beautiful voice and I would like to hear you singing without any kind of effects or processing. You should do an a capella piece some time with maybe some multitrack vocals. I checked out your other songs (Forks, American Lovers) and it's all excellent. I wish I could find someone like you locally to collaborate with even though this isn't really the type of music I make.

Also, do you use GarageBand or Logic by any chance? It sounds like some of the percussion was Apple loops.

Your kinda cute, but i really don't like this song, its boring and you sing it with no passion

If you take music seriously you need to sing it like you mean it and also write a better song that more people can relate to.
