It is indeed unnerving how little the head of state cares about the safety of his own people. He seems quite happy to allow things that deliberately provoke terrorists and leave his people headless, just to make a political point. I agree that the killer should be killed, but I also think the tensions that led to such an event shouldn't have been allowed/encouraged to escalate in the first place.
The problem with an absolutist approach to free speech, is that it overrules things like mutual respect and common sense. It comes with the assumption that saying something like "niggers are subhuman" in front of an all-black crowd, should have no consequences. In reality, all it means is that if you decide to say some stupid shit, the state won't punish you, but it won't protect you from the consequences either.
