I live in South Jersey. I'm sure that South Jersey has a lot in common with other states, other countries, and etc.. Regardless, I feel like I need to escape the culture I'm in. It's all making me very jaded and sick, and when I'm finally at my lowest, someone is playing my insecurities or begging me for help with their own insecurities when I honestly can't. I'm tired of the encouraged rudeness, stupidity, and tireless working every day for no means other than a few extra bucks to hand over to someone figuratively raping you over your hard work so that they can pay off their own mistakes.

How do I get away from this? The brands, the stupidity, the bombardment of other people's unadulterated opinions with no consequence other than potential violence or lawsuit. In my dreams I live in a Condo much like a tower, where I can come down and do whatever it is cynical people do for fun (smell the roses, maybe). My intuition tells me that's neither rational or humane and that I won't be satisfied working to such a lonely and selfish end. So what else can I do?

Disclaimer: I am not wholly against anything I've complained about in this thread. I believe in moderation and our capacity for intelligence.

It sounds to me that you have a problem with modern civilization and everything that goes with it. Unfortunately, it is impossible to live in this society without putting up with all the associated bullshit.

You have two choices. One, move somewhere extremely isolated and live off the land and nature in a complete disconnect from humanity. Two, suicide.

Depending on how skilled (or not) you are with self-sufficiency, both may have the same outcome.

Are you implying that group intelligence can never increase from where it's at now, or that the perversion alone will succeed?

Group intelligence is an oxymoron. It's a well-known phenomenon that people get stupider the more you herd them together. That's why all the great thinkers were/are loners. One cannot hear one's own thoughts over the sound of the surrounding people bleating.

It is in deed but self sufficiency is ppossible to the extent of 0 social life and I personally (and hopr many among us who have friends they care for will agree) believe that a solitary life is not worth it if you can't share it...

It seems we are in kind of a pickle... anyone care to develop along those lines?

TL;DR : self sufficiency vs social life?

OP here, talking a lot. Absolutely no social life is inhumane. I'd say the only reasonable options are different amounts of social life. If I'm looking for an "alternative" I wouldn't go as extreme as to locate myself in the woods. Much of what I'm bitching about and calling unhealthy has only been around for... shit, 50-100 years now?

I guess it's always something though; I should learn to take a little shit once in a while. I was figuring out ways around all the bleating and advertisements but it's not really /phi/ to get into. Still interested in all of your opinions in it. I mean; it's not excessive everywhere you go, but when you get hit with it, it's really disruptive and stupid. Tune it out, I guess.

I remember watching this documentary about good vs bad advertising back in the 90s, and these TV industry guys were belittling product placement and what's now referred to as good advertising ie honest claims reaching taret audience, claiming that being blasted with a series of random adds between shows was the way of the future, and that stamping Coca-Cola on every street corner would change it from corn syrup back to cane sugar. Dumb.

I give most of my money to Amazon, the gym, the coffee shop, burger joint, and sometimes Best Buy or Petsmart and they've literally never interrupted me with an advertisement once, and when I buy a car it's going to be in cash.

many great thinkers being loners does not mean all or even most loners are great thinkers.these days there are plenty of ways to exist alone and be entertained without resorting to thinking as entertainment. the guy who works the graveyard shift at stop-n-shop then goes straight home to watch porn and play warcraft every night probably wont realize anything interesting ever.

cant be 100% alone because nobody would ever hear any of your ideas brilliant or not.

cant stay alone too long because it makes it hard to communicate ideas in ways normal people will understand people already need an adapter to transfer thoughts between each other but when your adapter becomes unused for long periods of time you forget how to even use it appropriately.

I do live out in the woods where I never see other people. And I've spent years at a stretch without seeing a single other human being at all several times. Forget all that raving madman crap hollywood always portrays. It's fine. There's enough work to do just to live that you don't really have time to sit around going crazy. Anyone not sharp about their wits wouldn't survive from one season to the next. Additionally, Socrates was wrong, in that a person who is not part of a society DOES have more time to devote their thoughts to philosophy, and the freedom to do so uninterrupted. The rest of society may not benefit for what we lone wolves discover, but we don't discover anything profound in the artificial, cramped environment of societal pressure, so they wouldn't benefit from us if we stayed. ...but ultimately, it is not our responsibility to try to pass what we learn living in the wild to those who live in the city. You choose to live in a place that requires & rewards the numbing of your senses and narrowing of your thoughts. No one but you can fix that. Anyway, even if we devoted our time to the task, those lessons would not apply to your notion of society, & would have no value.

If you do it, remember that now with satellite Internet, you're only disconnected physically from any society. You can connect mentally to it at any time it is useful to do so.

I hate to play the political card in /phi/ but I do think a lot of our culture's decadence and creative emptiness comes from capitalism, more exclusively, corporatist capitalism. Today's blatant use of consumerist materialism, hierarchy that turns everybody at the lower power latter into drones in a state social experiment, blind nationalism, boondoggling work which could be put to more beneficial tasks and constant redundant coercion has a huge disadvantage on human potential.

There should be no property rights aside from property being used by free organizations of people who live by the non-aggression principle as best as possible (this might help to prevent someone's own perception on reality interlocking with someone else's), so people can fit their needs for developing their own humanity and self-actualization by having control of how their labor should be used. Hopefully this could help drain the repetitiveness and inanely-lived lifestyles of today's (sub)cultures.

If this socioeconomic paradigmatic petty-reasoning interested you, then be dogmatized more [http://www.infoshop.org/page/AnarchistFAQSectionI]. Just remember, don't let controversial beliefs define yourself! Not really philosophical enough, what I had to say, so I'll sage.

So, is our modern culture of exploitation a social inevitability, or is it just one possible cultural expression?

fundamental biological inevitability as it stands, people with messiah complexes included (actually especially them)

a lot of those cute pet displays are actually dominance displays and so on

the modern expression of exploitation aspect, in this light, is best described as "the latest and greatest method/trick/technique/tactic/nuance of a longstanding behavioural tendency)

I have to demonstrate my argument, I can't actually... argue it...

I have NO idea how to make a logical argument one way or another on this one, because the question is "meaningless" unless you define "capitalism" and I'm going to tell you that it's meaningless to try, let's just call it "that thing" - not facetiously, but just because it's a shapeshifter word like any other word, but moreso like any politically charged word is

ontology beats newspeak any day of the week "if that's wrong, I don't wanna be right"

I made some posts here, and I used fixed reference points here, you don't have to accept any of this as factually true precisely in of itself, but if you accept the meanings of the words used by my references and selections, as placemarkers, then you'll see the RELATIONS and PATTERNS, as opposed to the individual bits (I think?)

https://7chan.org/hi/res/13045.html#i13682

@$*@$YHI@$ orouborous, repeating self eating snake circling the world in a never ending cycle over and over again despite the fact that people mistake the same thing over and over again as something totally new.

(all posts are reposts, there is no such thing as original content) like any tools, people will use language/words in a way that suits them personally and not the general good, and sometimes others will go along with it, who should "know better"

individual words' definitions drift, the way they're put together for psychological convenience by historically naive players, who aren't entirely naive in a worldly sense

can lead to the same old crap all over again, and it's definitely new (to them)

capitalism now means what mercantilism used to mean which used to mean what feudalism used to used to mean, which used to used to mean what imperial rome used to used to used to mean, which used to used to used to mean what monarchy/aunochs/rex used to used to used to used to mean

>Can't really say, but here I go
No, you could say that. All of those societies capitalized in a broad sense of the word.

So why do we keep doing this? Is it because we're all inherently selfish? Will the less fortunate always toil out in the cold, waiting to be so gracisously called on to work, fuck, and then die? Is this only a product of *large* societies? Maybe these posters saying to live in remote locations do have somewhat of an idea here. Disconnect from the masses, because being in a mob is painful and dangerous.

transient, recurring, identity

ontology of saying stuff, the reason I had to demonstrate it is because unless you already know what I'm talking about me arguing it would be crazy

which, "coincidentally" is EXACTLY what my argument was, now that I've had sleep and some more coffee

TLDR'ing like this because everyone's a caffeinated ADHD upstanding member of the african american comunity or strawberry for raptors

a picture is worth 10^3 wErdZ, I WANT TO SEEM WITTY AND EDUCATED BUT I DON'T WANT TO BE BORED

it's like I'm saying the same thing twice, one in jewspeak(theologian), and one in NETSPEAK

News-peak WHY CAN'T I SAY THAT ONE WORD.
oh yeah newspeak. the thing about 1984 is everyone treats it like it's some thing around the corner but it's just a cynical view of every day life here and now

OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. LOOPING LIKE THAT SADISTIC GIF/FLASH FILE. WITH THAT SAME SMUG LOOK. - love it

in short dumb kids who don't know stuff lols, keep making the same dumb mistakes that previous generations of dumb kids made and education's the attempt to tell them about previous dumb kids' exploits and dumb shit in the hopes that they're at least not dumber so that they don't think the stupid things are smart things, and if they choose to do them anyways, WELL. THAT'S THEIR CHOICE WE'RE DEAD BY THEN

OH, and that last part is complicated to work through but easy to explain

the first generation of lessons (the 2nd generation will get them easily) is simple enough, they saw their parents mess up and do dumb crap and they avoid it on purpose

the 3rd generation of people, the 2nd generation of lessons, will know a little bit about the 1st generation of lessons and even less about the 1st generation of people

the 4th generation of people, 3rd generation of lessons, will know as much about the 1st generation of lessons, as the 3rd generation of people knew about the 1st generation of people

lesson/people - GENERATION SETS
0/1
1/2
2/3
3/4

1/2 will PSHAW WHATEVS the 0/1 generation (all generations will do this to the one directly previous to them)

2/3 will DERP at 0/1 PEOPLE
3/4 will DERP at 1/2 LESSONS, and "WHOA SO CRZY" 0/1 PEOPLE

4/5 will HUG AND COPY THEIR FAVOURITE HEROES 0/1 AND WILL NOT NOTICE 1/2, WHOA SO CRZY 2/3 people, DERP at 3/4 people

ND SOMETIMES PEOPLE WRITE SHIT DOWN ACCURATELY AND IT MAKES FOR A BETTER ARGUMENT TO OTHER PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO WRITE SHIT DOWN ACCURATELY

what it takes to write this shit down accurately is... I don't know how to explain genius or intelligence so i can't say, but genuinely useful knowledge is like this residue that slowly builds up over time, like scum

good look scraping the dregs to find it

addendum*

all generations will DERP their previous generation's lessons *and* people

my bad. I was losing interest so I didn't finish the thought

I know it's absurd, I know it's self referential, but whenever you're navel-gazing in an attempt to define everyone, you can't help but talk about yourself

you can't talk truly understand the #fail unless you can BE the #fail

and if you can't truly understand the #fail, then what if.. it's not that you can't BE the #fail, but that you've always been the #fail, and therefore know only #fail but think you don't know any #fail, because you've been described what it looks like from outside the #fail but you only see it from the inside so you can't find it

tinkle jailor mulder sky

what if OP's JUST SICK OF EVERYONE ELSE BECAUSE HE'S GETTING A CONSTANT BOMBARDMENT OF SITUATIONS WHERE EVERYONE'S HAPPY AND GETTING THINGS THEY WANT AND THE OP ISN'T, SO THAT THE CONSTANT REMINDER OF FAILURE IS ADDING CONSTANT STRESS WHICH MAKES IT HARDER TO NOT #FAIL

AND OP NEEDS A QUIET PLACE TO GET AWAY AND THINK ABOUT HOW/WHY THEY #FAIL SO THAT THEY CAN COME BACK AND BE AWESOME INSTEAD

#Ifeelurpain

#MANKINDISTHEEVIL
#CARLJUNG

I know I've read some "great philosophers" talk about this stuff but the truth is they only said it in a fancy way and I learned most of this stuff at school by other kids

and the internet.

whoa. mind blowing isn't it, experience. teaches us stuff. maybe OP just isn't HARDCORE enough, and should GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN because it's too hot

or maybe like me they should just accept that being autistic means that you get to hear every god damn sound, analyze every god damn fallacy and notice every god damn dominance play over and over again with unfailing memory in a deluge of information

and

SHH SHH SHH just LET IT HAPPEN
and sit back and enjoy it

Don't let this guy fuck with you

A heaven without conflict is hell.

Humans need problems. Without problems there is no suffering.

The obvious solution to your problem is to become a cop and try to make the world a better place. You'll be able to either bust tons of people you hate, or support a system for their subjugation.

What problem does bitching solve/

What you are calling and experiencing culture is really the sum total of the shit-rolling-downhill throwaway to-the-edges-of-the-tribe trash of the people in control and with power. You are experiencing the pressure the upper classes put on the lower classes to behave the way they do.

If you are truly better than this, you must isolate yourself and deal with the savages on your terms only.

If I knew how to escape I'd likely not be here to tell you this.

biking helps me. SOmetimes i'll even go out of my way to bike an extra half hour in the mornings. It's not as intensive as running but gives you alot more space to think and be 'on your own' than walking. Otherwise you better start drinking while you work or find a better job, one that you actually like.
