Hello all, once again I am stuck with not being able to remove a watermark. just in case I am refering to the persons name and e-mail addy that appears at the top and bottom of the page of most pathfinder stuff. I have used Adobe Acrobat 9 and 10. i have downloaded and tried a couple of the dewater mark programs, but they did not do well. 1 program that converted the pdf to a word doc actually took it off the watermark, but when converted back to pdf, the titles with the shadows were not aligned, words were not spelled correctly, and case was changed. In other words, I have not had any luck yet. Anyone have a way that they have used that works?

Also, anyone been able to get a copy of the Ultimate Spell Decks? Would like to use them when I get a chance to play again.

A couple people have asked about this. I'm not sure why we we're not helping them out... I'll be a little circumspect, in case the concern is search engines finding this.

Anyway, remove all the # and then google this:

remove#rpg#watermarks#v22

That will lead you to a download for a java based solution. You will need to read the README, and you will need to be able to use the command line (it's a not a point and click solution). If you have questions, ask, but let's refer to it as java-water, so as to keep avoiding the name.

This has worked for me on everything (there may have been one failure) from paiz and rpgstuf. There will be no visible watermarks left. Someone did mention at one time that there was still a hidden mark left, but I haven't heard anyone else confirm that.

There ARE hidden watermarks that all the scripts out there do NOT remove. You MUST remove them manually. The scripts also tend to corrupt files, delete any bookmarks, etc. so you're better off learning how to do EVERYTHING manually.

Interesting. I just manually checked some drivethrustuf pdfs with Acro Pro, and the java process worked, left no hidden watermarks, and didn't break bookmarks.

I agree 100% - there is no need for snarky comments. We're all rpg'ers in here. As far as de-watermarking goes, I'm pretty sure there are a small few who exist who do know how to get it done right. Here's a guide I have for all who are interested, though I think it's probably not up to date with current security practices. However, it may be helpful to remove those pesky and glaring watermarks on your purchased pdf's for your own use. I dunno - check it out.

Really? The pdf's creator is not listed in it. Secondly, I put it up - that link was mine. Third, I found that pdf on the net. I'm sure if I can find it so can anybody else.

Additionally, as I stated, I'm sure that it won't work with current security practices, BUT, as stated, would be great for removing any VISIBLE watermarks on your own pdf's for your own use.

They can't put them back in, but they CAN make them more difficult to remove. That's why you don't talk about stuff in public. I'm happy to share what I know, but won't do it publicly or with someone I don't know.

I don't believe that it is illegal to remove the watermarks from your own purchased ebooks. Watermarks are just plain straight up ugly. You may edit or do whatever you wish to your book - it's yours. The problem is in DISTRIBUTING said book\s.

It IS illegal to distribute them with OR without watermarks.

I would just like to repeat what I stated earlier - I was only trying to help out those who wanted to remove VISIBLE watermarks from their own pdf's, because the method used there certainly would NOT prevent Paizo (or any other company) from tracking them. It was merely for the purpose of "ugly watermark" removal. Nothing more, and nothing less.

And finally, there is absolutely nothing wrong with supporting the publisher\s of the game of your choice by actually purchasing their works.

In the end, I think that people who are downloading pdf's are most likely "collecting". With the wealth of material that's out there, I seriously doubt that most people put to use 95% of the material they DL - they just like to "collect".

If you're concerned about legal issues, contact a lawyer. I've already seen two statements about legalities in this discussion so far that are directly contradictory to copyright laws in the United States as they currently stand. Everyone knows what they're doing in this threat is illegal, whether or not they justify it to themselves morally. If this is something that actually concerns you, contact an actual legal representative.

I'd also recommend starting another topic if you guys want to discuss the legalities or the processes of dewatermarking so that the people who are trying to make and fill requests can do so without off-topic discussions cluttering things up worse than they are normally. Thanks!
