I find it extremely handy. When I go to different cities or countries for whatever event and I meet new friends, I just ask for their facebook, allowing us to keep in touch even when I leave. Facebook is the reason I still talk with and keep up to date with all my friends back in the states.

It's also great for coordinating events like parties and stuff.

Noice. For me it's only use is as an e-mail substitute. The peeps I want to stay in touch with are mostly terrible at checking their e-mails, so the best way to get in contact is the message function.

Regarding to the Facebook thing, well, I use it not to socialize but to talk to my friends, it's faster than messenger and well I'm poor as fuck and I only have a prepaid cellphone plan, so it is the answer for me. If someone post stupid things I just "unfollow" them they can still see my shit and talk to me, I just don't have to deal with stupid things.

For younger people, dropping out of facebook literally means losing contact with most of their friends.

I use facebook to keep in contact with friends I've made around the world. What I dislike about it is the people who post status updates such as "drinkan a beer" and then get 35 likes and 15 comments on it. Then the people who post something like "US congress officials have passed legislation declaring that national yearly audits of the major banks are now mandatory" get maybe three likes at the most, possibly one comment. It makes me weep with sorrow.

I have this same problem, although that's been stated a couple times here already. I hardly go on facebook anymore because the friends that I do have are just bland as fuck on the internet as well as real life and I don't have many friends because I live in the middle of fucking no where and honestly I prefer being alone then with them.

I used to worry about fitting into a society that wasn't accepting me.
It hurt and made me hate the world.

As for your Popularized-Media-Slaves, it's best to ignore them. I stopped using facebook several years ago myself, but that doesn't deter the slaves irl. If you find that your friends are these same mindless drones who like "maymayze" find yourself some new friends. It's not even hard ditching an entire crowd of people: You can turn off your phone for a week and walk by your old friends with zero eye-contact and they'll get the picture.

If you want some real friends who are untouched by all this unoriginal bullshit, try to find people who are social rejects, or people who generally don't talk to other people.
