Almost everyone keeps joking about their own fucking mental illnesses. Why? How does it even help? It's so fucking annoying. Why can't you just do something about it you cheap fuck? I'm quite fucking mental myself but I'm trying to work on it but why does it seem to be so okay to them? What do they have that I don't? What am I missing? Every time I see one I feel disgust yet insulted at the same time. It's like every where I go the monsters never leave.

How about you guys? How does it make you feel?

People who are mentally ill never think they're mentally ill. It takes a certain amount of self-realization to recognize that you're ill.

I knew someone who would go off her meds because she thought she didn't need them, then skip work for weeks because she wouldn't get out from underneath her bed because of mind control rays, invisible gubberment agents trying to kill her, or just about any other asinine thing you could possibly read on the internet and wonder how anyone would ever believe it. When she was finally fired she had to be escorted out of the building by police because she refused to leave ("I don't have time for this, I have work to do."). Last anyone knew she was back under her bed, this time hiding from her landlord. Couldn't afford rent w/o a job.

You can't help people who don't want to be helped. All you can do is laugh, otherwise they'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Also never try to teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Maybe they are actually not ill. Maybe their brains are wired differently from society's and the constant oppression of not being able to express and be that which they truly are is the trigger of significant trauma which manifests itself as an unstable, mentally-screwed-up person. If you were constantly being oppressed in an environment involving a society that enforces a strict code of conduct and thought, you would start to get a bit antsy.

That sounds more along the lines of Catholic Priests.

Schizophrenics aren't freaking out and hiding under their beds because of society. They're doing it because their brain chemistry took a turn for the worse. They have the MRIs to prove it.

Society needs them to be productive. If being productive is "pressure" then maybe they need to be removed from society and placed in a little white padded room free from all "pressure."

Sorry, I've never heard schizophrenics joking about their illness.
I thought you meant someone similar to the person in the pic who uses chop sticks to down a soda thinking that it was normal, or something along those lines where social oppression leads one to defy well-established rules leading conformers to believe they are ill for not being one of them.

>I've never heard schizophrenics joking about their illness
I've met one, the only diagnosed schizophrenic I've ever met (who would talk about it at least). He could make pretty light of it.

The two of us had some good laughs about it, my own neurosis being something of a running gag (OCD, later diagnosed as a symptom of anxiety disorder and depression) among our circle of friends (most of whom probably have their own diagnoses by now, we were a gang of desperate and screwed up individuals).

It wasn't very funny when he flipped and walked out of his house never to be seen again though.
