Hey, has anyone ran or is running a Carcosa campaign? If so how do you see the race of 13 men?

I'm trying to get help visualizing people living, trading, expanding...etc on Carcosa.

I'll be running a session in a month(-ish) of an homebrew Microlite20 hack (think D&D3.5 or Pathfinder, but rule lighter) for 8 to 15 players (uncertain number as of yet, 2 of the people are newbies, but that's a non-issue).
I have run a 11 player session with (moderate?) success before.

I currently have 2 scenario ideas:
- Settler caravan (Protect/Explore), in which the players would be adventurers into the brave unknown.
- Town defense (Think Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven), in which the players would be defending a riverside town versus a goblinoid raid.

What I need is either a new awesome scenario for a big group (eh.), or ideas/suggestions for these 2 scenarios.

Well, I personally see the town defense as a better option. It lets you flesh out the NPCs that you have there and allows for a little bit of intrigue among the baddie bopping.

You could have the raid worsen when a traveler seeking refuge comes to town, obviously pointing to him. While he seems a decent guy, the common man will blame him. Little does he know that he carries a rather simple looking broach that beckons to the goblins and will help the goblins reach out to some ancient force... or something.

Maybe the players just kill him, seeing the raids get worse. Maybe they find it to be the broach and toss it, but when the goblins finally collect, they unlock untold powers. Maybe they smash it, but a thing like that, what could be the consequences of breaking it. And that's all just with one guy. Now imagine the NPCs of the town, a few folk the players can get to know who will certainly alter the opinions of the PCs, offering their take on the whole ordeal. Whether it's pressure from the towns folk or the ever worsening raids, things will happen. Maybe a particularly agressive member of the town straight up murders the guy thinking it was that guy who was ordering the attacks. Now you have the worsening raids AND an enraged villager as well as a murder to deal with.

The Master 13/04/02(Tue)01:18 No. 43425

Well the town defence sounds ok, but what is the average party level going to be? If its a 1-3rd level sorta affair then ok goblins but why not something diffent like, if the village is near the ocean, use Sahuagin or if near any hills maybe a band of Gnoll's or Orcs lead by an Ogre Mage, IDK just some random ideas for ya.

>>
Nosophoros 13/04/02(Tue)15:03 No. 43438

Indeed the Town Defense sounds like the best possibility, I can put the characters as either being part of the town or just passing through...

>>43332
That's a nice idea, maybe someone stole their most precious relic <insert magic item here>, and they want it back. Good plot point

>>43425
I'm not sure about level yet, I was considering level 1, but have also considered 3 or 5 if I want to put some stronger baddies...

The town is near a river, close to the sea, I had considered putting it near the ocean at start... I was considering Orcs or Goblinoids with some necromantic capabilities. But Sauhagin sounds interesting!

I got some NPC archetypes I know will be in: The town leader (a lord or mayor, not sure yet), Constable/Sheriff, an Alchemist (for potions and random nasty things), a mid-level non-combatant cleric (possibly very old local priest, for healing spells), the local blacksmith, some militia members (weak fodder), the local tavern owner (because I know at least one of the players is going to probably play his favourite type of character, the drunk barbarian.)

Some info!
Character races:
Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Wood Elves (the followers of olden ways), High Elves (the followers of the arcane ways), Half-orcs, Tieflings

Thought this may be better as a separate posts as the request thread is kind hit and miss in regards to people doing much beyond filling requests.

What i am hoping for is to get a group of people that have cardstock and that we can trade the sets amongst ourselves and hopefully flesh out our collections

I have a large amount of worldworks all genres

Fat dragon games

Microtax

Random other lines

Hoping to flesh these out and get sets from some of these:

#1 rule of tabletop gaming: Don't play in a game with a DM who has a PC. Especially one who is DRIZZT. Because that is retarded.

Rule #2 is to ACTUALLY USE the rules outlined by the core book you are using. Keeping it homogeneous also helps. DnD 3 Monster book and the Pathfinder rules don't fit together.

It also sucks when you fight a barbarian who rages and gets BONUSES to his defense, wisdom and intelligence. And has a weapon that has reach that shouldn't have reach (quarter staff) and then getting that extended reach because, you know, barbarian.

Rule #3: If you are going to throw the PCs in any game at a boss, make it so they have a chance of killing it, rather than having their helpless selves fight a man who can some how block 4 attacks simultaneously and with his extended reach can get 3 AOs when you try to retreat.

Rule #4 deals with three. While your PCs are dying, don't have your DM controlled level 16 cheese character Drizzt come in every boss fight and kill the boss for them while they fail.

Anyway, the picture is a product of discussions on how to break a game with no rules except for that Drizzt wins all the time.

I only use a GMPC when playing with newbies to try keep them on track.

I remember once though I was playing with a noob who fumbled his rolls and decided it was my GMPC's fault and turned on him... after that the party was lost.

Nah, not OPs GM, I'll admit I'm far from the best. I just find it hard to enjoy being one when the players are incapable of progressing without constant guidance. A lot of newbs I know are incapable of thinking outside of combat.

Hello. First time posting, so excuse me if I write something stupid. Anyways, here goes.
I am DMing first time DND4e and was thinking of making some kind of puzzle for players to solve. Google usually turns 999999 riddles and similar stuff. While riddles are cool, it is not what I am looking for. Any chance you can advise on some puzzle ? Thank you in advance.
Sacrificing a goblin to please you.

It sort of depends on how you plan on doing visuals. If you have a map and some decent markers/minis then One idea I find that some people like doing is the classic Mirror Puzzle.

Essentially have it so that in the dungeon the players come into a room that is illuminated by moonlight (that way they can't just cheat and use torchlight to skip the solution), in the room there are also several mirrors that can either be rotated or slide along the floor on a path.

Be open to letting them use their shields or pocket mirrors in order to bend and redirect the light without dicking around with all the mirrors if they're clever enough to do it.

For added challenge you could add in some shadow monsters. Relatively weak, but they only become vulnerable to regular damage when they are bathed in moonlight. Magic attacks still work either way.

Another classic is putting a massive locked door somewhere near the beginning of a dungeon, then having a fairly easy obstacle course filled with monsters. At the end of the dungeon have a really big, bulky key.

Naturally the players want to get the key to the big door, but carrying it should be a hassle (not just something that takes inventory space) and on top of that the path back is actually quite challenging when you head back. (IE. Sliding down a rope over a spiked pit to retrieve the key becomes climbing up a rope on the trip back).

Some ideas/changes to that formula can be to have a slightly less obvious "key", say a crystal sword and meanwhile the first hall of the dungeon had 12 statues, 11 of which had crystal swords.

Another trick is to have something like stone gargoyles/golems (depending on level) which are harmless going to retrieve the key but can catch the players off guard on the return trip.

All are very good ideas. Thank you.
So far, I've decided to do this little game of checkers with my players. PC's are leaving their bodies to possess minions on the board. All of the minions have 1hp, 1sq. move, 3 ranged and other stats that said minion has by default. Players on their turn, take control of minions on one side, while DM (me) on the other side. Goal is to eradicate opposition - like in checkers. Sounds ok idea ?

Weapon Change in Tabletop Anonymous 13/01/14(Mon)19:45 No. 40015 [Reply]

I'm looking for something. A ritual, a Weapon Enhancement, something within any Tabletop game so I can take a look and use it as a base for a Game I am running.

I'm trying to find something that allows a weapon to change from one type to another type. For example the image I used is from Bleach. A Sword Cane suddenly changing into a Jian Long Sword. Or something like a Greatsword changing into a Dwarven Great axe.

Any recommendations?

Transformative weapon enhancement in D&D 3.5 and pathfinder, a +1 enhancement and a flat fee respectively.
Any melee weapon becomes any other of its type.

I quite often find myself playing short, improvised campaigns as my group has split for studying and we only meet every few months. I was thinking that it would be handy for everyone, who enjoy short, smart and improvised campaigns, to have a threadful of ideas which have been thought before, and thus have a knack that carries longer comparing to completely improvised ones.

One which I threw in WHFRP started with only the following: party will start with going into a tavern and then I'll postpone their leaving as long as I can.
If my memory serves me right I threw a blizzard at them, jammed the door, as the snow melted and made it swollen and had the local population have suspicion that they might have plague.
My players were nice enough to play with me for a while, and it really gave them opportunity to delve into characters, or that's what they told me. I'm pretty sure we're not the only group starting in taverns far too often.

One which I read about was in 1920s New Orleans. Players had a bluesband and behind the curtains they were assassinating people, so you got all these guns in cases, victim carried in the middle a parade and shit. I'll probably try that sometime.

Anyone anything interesting?
*pic not related, but cool

Samurai Swords (AKA Ikusa or Shogun).

My dad played it years ago and got me interested. Anyone here familiar with it? I'm considering buying myself one. Any experiences with it?

Its like Risk if Risk was fun =^_^=
I'm not a big fan of Wargames with more than two players. They're prone to bullshit politics and king making. But I thought this game was hella fun. A lot of neat game mechanics, especially for it's time.
If you're looking for a recommendation, you've got mine.

Good game. New one has almost no changes except the board is smaller (good thing) and the components are a little cheaper (bad thing).

Also, 40 dollars is not steep. Game went for sixty in the 90's. Average cost of a board game now is $50-$60.
