>Play games while they are being downloaded
>How does that even work?
Some games already sort of do that. You download the essentials and the first area or level. The rest is then downloaded (hopefully) in time when you get out of the starter area.

I do remember reading an article about it. The PS4 approach would be a bit different since you start playing the game via streaming (Sony bought Gaikai for this) and it would then seemlessly transfer to your PS4 once the download is complete. An article from one of the devs who's had early access mentioned that games need to be setup specifically for this.

this poster is right to doubt the messianic claims that sony wouldn't screw over people who might be interested in buying anything of theirs

it would be really stupid to just forget about their little virus scheme that got them so many lawsuits :>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal

of course, like that poster, it might just be a moment where things were lost in translation, but being so non-committal about "owning the physical things you buy" is rather... sketchy and there's no reason for me to believe any claims that a major console developer won't screw everyone over until I see it in good form, for a long period of time

especially with all the talk from various console groups, which is why I'm sticking with PC primarily

as for playing while you download, I've been doing this with world of warcraft, you can have about half the game DL'd before it's playable and then you're loading stuff a lot of the time

No, because previous games didn't rely on "agents". You couldn't "follow" a sim through the city like you can with SC2013. There just wasn't enough processing power available at the time of SC4 to do so.

Everything in SC4 was handled with probabilities and statistics. 10 houses in SC2013 generate 60 little agents that you can see filling the nearby streets to create traffic. 10 houses in SC4 generate X amount of traffic based on Y amount of houses. It's a subtle difference.

Got bored and reinstalled Civilization 4 and its Expansions today. Maybe I wanted to see if I could get addicted to it again.

There was this one old Civ4 city tutorial image that I was looking for while reinstalling. It's a screencap of the city screen with extra notes for how to get the most out of tiles, and was rather detailed. Can anyone post this?

Oh, and recommend me some Civ4 mods, I guess.

No clue on the image you're talking about, but there's always the War Academy on CivFanatics.

Civ4+Warlords+BTS+Patch 3.19 and then BUG mod is just pure awesome.

This BUG Mod sounds good, being some of the best Civ 4 mods put together in one package, but I can choose which ones I want to enable.

Thanks for that.

I think you're looking too much into it.

The reason there were no Blood Elf Warriors prior to Cataclysm was because most of them were killed trying to defend their land from Arthas and his armies.

After 10 in-game years, they've finally recovered their numbers out of necessity to survive the Cataclysm, and because they've got rid of their crippling arcane addiction, which "locked" most of them into playing magic classes just to get some of that fine ass magic in them.

So TW3 got announced, as they pretty much said it would in the Cyberpunk 2077 teaser.

Looks like a CDPR took a que from Skyrim and made it open world. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I really hope they make it more compelling than Skyrim. I'd like a gripping story and memorable characters, rather than a sandbox for dicking around.

I liked how the first two games were in sort-of closed areas. The exploration was limited by it, but it kept the story flowing rather than: "Oh I should stop this quest now or I won't get the other quest and if I continue, mob X will stop spawning" etc.

They've set some pretty lofty goals for themselves in the GameInformer feature, but that's typical of CD Projekt Red. They mostly come through with them, but still. On one hand it's all just PR hype, on the other hand, you should be ambitious instead of going for mediocrity.

They're cocky as fuck, in a good way.
The fact that they're so critical gives me hope, but I do think the amount of free roam things you do will be relatively limited. As in a lot of people will have done them all by the time they put the game down, which isn't the case with games like Skyrim.

Not that I'm complaining. Quality over quantity

CDPR say they will be at GDC this year, so hopefully we'll get some more stuff on it.
There's loads of articles from different magazine out now btw, you can find shitty translations of them on the wither forum.

Ideally we'd get a trailer and then some gameplay at E3.

They keep releasing screenshots and saying they're crap because they haven't implemented the DX11 renderer yet.

Get Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry pulled off the shelves. 13/01/22(Tue)16:52 No. 139204 ID: 99c03a [Reply]

Dear Mr. Obama: As a consumer to the Video Game Industry there is one Video Game that has caused a lot of controversy over the past few month's.

The name of the game is DmC: Devil May Cry made by Ninja Theory and Capcom. A majority of gamer's are aggravated that this game has changed so much from it's past predecessors and the game actually insults the consumers in-game.

We, as consumers did not want nor need this reboot and we believe it violates our rights to have a choice between the original's or the reboot. This game is violating our rights as a consumer and we believe it should be pulled off shelves from game stores due to it's insulting nature and the fact that it violates our rights.

Please Mr. Obama, look into your heart and make the decision that will please us Gamers.

this is pretty much how i felt about it.
there is one thing i dont get though, why are people so pissed off about the characters and story?
devil may cry has always had a retarded story and ,so juvenile it hurts, characters. its always been the game play that has made these games fun, and while i will admit, the combat is a little easier this time around, its still very satisfying and a lot of fun.

You guys seen this shit?

It's called Factorio. Basically a couple of Russian assholes put together a combination of Terraria and SpaceChem.

Your little 2D avatar faggot runs around ferrying fuel to mining machines until you build enough conveyor belts to automate the process. Then you begin generating electricity with water pumps and steam engines and before you know it you're running a fully-automated robotics factory. Oh and also there's enemies that spawn and attack your shit, so you need to make guns and armor or whatever. Combat is basically "point the cursor and hold spacebar and it autoaims" so it's just an annoyance.

You can download a demo at their website, or you can donate to their [CROWDSOURCE WEBSITE REDACTED] fund and then e-mail them and tell them you donated and then get an alpha version download link (what the fuck kind of system is that???). I'm a spendfag so I paid for it and maybe if I feel generous I'll put up a torrent.

In the meantime, go be Glorious Kapitalists.

The newer addition to the factory is the part below the lab. Clearly I ran out of room in between my miners and had to expand. Didn't do much planning here either.

Iron/copper plates and gears (routed AROUND everything to the left...jesus) are fed down into manufacturing plants (the top three buildings near the turrets). These are turned into circuit boards and belts, which are fed into the bottom plant to make 2nd-tier science packs, needed for advanced research (three tiers of science packs, plus "alien science packs" which I have no idea what they're for).

This final step is where the entire automated system stops and I have to intervene manually. Clearly there's no way to route conveyor belts back to the lab, so the tier-2 packs just dump out into that chest and wait for me to come get them and walk them up to the lab like some kind of common peasant. I'm sure there's better ways to do this, probably by making everything more spread out, but I'm pretty pleased I managed to automate things to this point.

So Angry Birds is now on Steam. I thought it looked okay, I played the browser version a while back and had some very limited fun with it before putting it down and sighing a powerful "Meh". I mean, I can see the appeal I guess. I can't really fathom why someone would want to play it so often, but hey, whatever.

What I saw back then wasn't very novel or innovative. But now, they've got several different versions of Angry Birds, and the one on Steam doesn't look any different. What are your opinions on it?

As a side note, the dudes on the Steam forums are flipping their shit over this. If you get the chance, have a look. It's a good way to spend an hour or two, much more entertaining than Angry Birds.

And it isn't. It always bugged me how Angry Birds managed to acquire such a fame with a concept so beaten to death in countless flash games. When I was active in Newgrounds you could be pretty sure there was going to be a simmilar artillery game on the front page at least once in a couple of months.

It got popular because of smartphones (and the fact it was free). Look at words with friends. It's a 2player scrabble, but shitty because it excluded all the rules that made the game fair. It got fairly population. Smartphone games are just timesinks for people at work who aren't working.
