Primary hand; Bearded one-handed axe, with a 6 inch steel spike at the opposite end of the handle, and a clover head opposite the axehead.
Secondary Hand; Hooded Katar/Shield Katar.
Armor; a combination of light place, scale and chainmaille.
Strategies?
Short swords/Daggers; Charge, use the shield to block the blade, and pick/bludgeon/axe to death.
Short sword and Shield; Block with shield, hook enemy shield with axe, punch enemy in face/neck/groin/ribs with katar blade.
Long sword; Block with shield, catch/parry with axe, bludgeon/pick/axe/facestab enemy into deathness.
The basic idea is, the sheild has a blade on it, so ti acts as a primarily defensive weapon, with offensive abilities, and the axe is bearded (so it has a hook on it) which lends it parrying abilities. if the enemy attacks, you have a whole laundry list of options, from using the shield to block and hooking their arm/leg/groin/head with the axe, to just blocking and then punching them in the face with the katar while they recover.
Oh, as a side note?
Katanas; block w/ shield, katarpunch in face. Or parry with axe, katarpunch in face. or block with shield, use 6 inch steel deathspike to icepick them in the face. Or block with shield, hook arm with axe, slice tendons with katar. I initially designed this set for theoretical use against mounted knights. On foot.
