Knife sharpening noob here. Was curious about sharpening recurves, but specifically those that only curve slightly (like the pictured 710). I know that with more aggressive curves, people use rods, cones, and stone edges, but would regular sharpening work for something similar?

try tilting the whetstone so it is at the angle you want to sharpen at (for example, you know those V rod pre-set angle sharpeners? tilt the whetstone that hold your knife vertical and use it like that.

...you'll probably need to buy a bench vise though

you can get good results with just about any kind of sharpening device. Just pay attention to what you are doing. try to keep the angle the same, using water or oil depending on what kind of stone you are using is very helpful. youtube has lots of very educational videos on the subject, that way you can see the motions. hope that helps
