Hey /x/, have you heard of the Agartha project?

Formerly known as the New Eden project, we're a group of members from /x/, /w/, /sci/ and more who are attempting to found a town. Such a town would be environmentally friendly, independently governed, and secure just in case SHTF. Oh, and most importantly, it would be a town of goddamn /x/philes and other *channers.

If you're interested in the project, or just want more information, check out the forums or the IRC channel here:

http://bneweden.runboard.com/

https://qchat.rizon.net/?nick=anonymous.&channels=kantachat&prompt=1

I'm sure that many of you who haven't heard of the project before already have a pile of questions and criticisms. I'll do my best to answer them in this thread. Any advice is welcome as well.

I haven't checked out the information in the links, yet, but my first question is: "Where are they planning to found a town?"
I mean, you can't just claim a strip of land and found a town there, however awesome it would be.

Well, we're still open to suggestions, but we've considered setting up shop in Hudspeth County, Texas (one of our members actually owns 200 acres of land there). The problem is, its in the middle of nowhere, there's no water to be found, and it's impossible to grow things in the soil. So that location will probably only be used as a last resort.

More recently we've considered founding the town in New Hampshire. We've found a decent property that has access to water, utilities, and is quite close to town. It's for a relatively good price too.

Sounds like you'd need a lot of money.

We're trying to keep the costs as low as possible, but yeah, it would still take a lot.

We would probably accumulate the funds from small donations on PayPal, larger donations from prospective residents, and from sales of merchandise on E-bay (one of our members was considering selling replicas of items from the SCP and Holders series).

New Hampshire please. If not anything else I would visit and help local economy.

You should prefrably buy land in Norway or Sweden, there is many nature resources and good water which will be essential when the time comes.
If you are serious about this you will start your research emediatly.

Oh fuck, I remember New Eden. That was such a cool idea; shame it fell apart.

Tin Foil Enthusiast 11/12/29(Thu)21:18 No. 15200

You guys should try to create the town in a state like Wyoming or North Dakota where the land is cheap to buy and you can grow stuff. Plus there aren't a lot of people in those states anyway so they might let you slide.

I found this plot of land in South Dakota that you could buy if you put you money together. 319 acres for $120,901.

I know a dude who owns about 100 acres of land a few hours away from Salt Lake City. Perfect for shitstormery if you want. You'd have to get him to sell, though.

As an American. Its sad that I believe America is the last place id want to be when shtf... Well maybe not the last but it wouldn't be a good place esp if the government ever decides to go all third Reich and destroy anyone not on their side.

Every house will have secret doors and drawers
we will erect strange buildings only to abandon them to rot and ruin for our children to explore and party in
These buildings will have secret locks of their own, ciphers that can only be unlocked by the clues we pass on to our children through secret rituals and heart to heart talks through their lives.

Tin Foil Enthusiast 12/01/09(Mon)08:09 No. 15251

Well, where exactly would this be founded?

$120k would probably be too expensive for us - I'm thinking something more like $50k. Besides, we won't need that many acres anyway.

>>15225

Deserts aren't really what we're looking for. It may be cheap, but in our experience quality > quantity.

>>15251

I'm thinking SE United States, due to good rainfall, lots of sun, fertile land and relatively inexpensive land. That's just me though.

We've looked into it, but they're all way too expensive for us. They also don't have any unique advantages aside from being really really cool.

In Australia, you can legally found your own country if you own the land. Perhaps that's a god starting point?

Technically, you can form your own state if you own land in America.

Have you all considered a Kickstarter? I think it would ease channer fears if it were an organized donation.

I don't have any money to give, but I'd love to live in a creative barter system that would let me work for support.

I hate to necrobump but there's been some renewed interest in this project and I feel I should make some updates:

- Some months ago we officially incorporated into a nonprofit. Tax exemption and a bank account are also on the way, and should be available within the next few months.

- The town will almost definitely be located somewhere in Southeastern Colorado, such as Pueblo county.

- Acreage isn't all that important. As I've stated before, in terms of land, we're looking for quality (for example, good access & utilities) over quantity.

- Kickstarter is a great idea, but they tend to be rather strict when it comes to projects like this. Something like indiegogo might be more our speed.

- This is a superior link to the IRC: http://client01.chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23kantachat&server=rizon.mibbit.org
