Eventually (hopefully) you're going set up an HQ, whether it be a fortified building, large boat, or mobile convoy. At that point you won't need to lug around every last bit of that survival gear around on your back. Trips into the wasteland should have a purpose: recon, surveillance, resource assessment and procurement, security detail, etc...You can tweak your gear for the task at hand without bogging yourself down with an entire camp's worth of gear. Combat and mobility are generally you're priority, but you also need some spare room to pick stuff up you scavenge. We call this Raid Gear.

So let's see your Raid Gear zombros.

It all depends on the cushion inside the glove. Most gloves like that do not come with adequate protection against blunt force trauma. I do not know the gloves your friend brought back so I still wouldn't suggest them.

I have a pair of Rothco and Mechanix hard knuckle gloves. They both let me punch whatever the fuck I want without the pain of bare handed punching. You just have to make sure you buy one with a nice spacious fit, from my experience.

How would you approach surviving? Shambler 15/11/08(Sun)21:50 No. 5437 ID: 813643 [Reply]

1. Finding a safe/secure place that keeps zeds out and is hidden from other human survivors

2. Search for food/water. If you live in a suburban area, just break into houses and prioritize canned food and bottled water.

3. Stock up on bartering items. Usually, these are consumables, like alcohol, medication, coffee, gasoline, ammunition, and to some extent, clothing and shoes.

4. Make plans to travel to the Hoover Dam. This place is probably the most study man made structure that also can also be the place where the human survivors can start over due to it providing electricity and irrigation.

Things you should do know are to makes sure you are proficient in body weight exercises, and to be able to run 3 miles + without being winded. Outrunning threats, and chasing down prey is really a basic human maneuver, and should not be underestimated.

I actually don't think zeds will be that big of a threat. I don't believe in zombie magic, and I honestly think actual zeds will just die out within a month or two, even if 99%+ of humanity gets infected.

1. I've already planned a hypothetically retreat - Strid Wood in Yorkshire. It's quiet, attractive, the nearby camping site can be used for expansion, and there are a lot of pre-existing natural and man made defenses.
2. Bum supplies from the local camp site. Set up a quick wire fence defense through the woods, which will deflect docile zombies passing through.
3. Start searching for survivors.
4. Swot up on pre-industrial trades, such as farming, textiles and smithing, seeing as how in the ensuing decades this will be the main staple of human survival, once most fuel and machinery deteriorates beyond use (this will happen within the space of a single generation).
5. Find means to preserve literature and educate the next generation. It will be the key to surviving long term, especially as although the population will be far too small to get things like sophisticated machinery and mass production working, eventually you will get to that stage and won't want to have to reinvent every god damn thing because all the books over the next hundred years or so have turned to mush.

1. pack up my boat and check the nearby islands for zombies or survivors, pick the emptiest island
2. set up a camp and some simple fortifications
3. use my walkie talkie to check for nearby survivors to save
4. try to create a network of safe spots
5. sail to a town nearby that has a camping supply store and loot it/trade with possible survivors
6. found a central (fortified) place where survivors can gather, rest during their travels and prepare to reconquer the lands from the undead horde
7. build simple instalations that are able to turn rotten garbage into fuel
8. gather a militia to undertake actions like clearing villages from zombies to turn them in to safe strongholds
9. find a place where a vaccine can be developed
so how do you guys like my plan?

How to train your... Shambler 14/02/06(Thu)20:34 No. 5010 ID: 55be72 [Reply]

Back in the day, perhaps even before /zom/ existed, some guy on /b/ published a really bizarre piece of work titled "How to Train Your Zombitch". Now, I'm not entirely sure that the name I'm listing is 100% accurate, but it was a totally zany postapocalyptic guide detailing the process of catching one's human-sized fleshlight, tarting her up and... well, using her for stress relief. Why am I bringing all of this up? TBH, my hard drive crashed and burned, so I'm looking to refill on zombie pasta. This is the first one that came to my mind, but if you have something that's equally messed up and are willing to share, go right ahead.

Thanks in advance!

Is there a better zombie game than gmod's zombie mode? Why isn't there more zombie games?

2 days ago I had a dream where zombies had taken over, and humans were still surviving, but only the strong humans survived which led to a race of superhuman zombie slayers who could rip mutant zombies limb from limb but were still on the verge of extinction.

Dear /zom/.

What would be your most favorite way to dispatch all those zombie bros walking around?

Mine would have to be stealing a Fire-truck and using the high pressure water hose to tear apart the zombies. Aside from gasoline being in high demand in the Apocalypse water would still be easily aquired from lakes, rivers, or a sea. Also the truck itself could be useful for a safe mass transport for people and/or supplies.

So, you made it to the last bastion of humanity. Congratulations. After a night of celebration you wake up groggy. Too bad you're in a cell. Unfortunately in your drunken stupor you made a few taboos, which ones you can't be sure of, your memories are foggy. But the long and short of it is you're now got face trial by zombie.

Trial by zombie is a simple judicial process:

You will be given a day to arm a subdued zombie for melee combat using a variety of equipment and a basic garage workshop as you see fit.

Your zombie will then be pitted against another 'contestants' zombie in the arena, the zeds will have at each other and the last zed standing wins (How the hell they're convinced to attack each other is unknown, but it does work).

Should your zombie win you will be granted freedom.

Should your zombie lose you will be tossed in the arena to face the winners creation.

Should you survive that... you must repeat the process all over again until you gain your freedom or perish. (There are rumours of contestants creating zombies of such showmanship they have received a pardon from the crowd but such instances are rare).

So how do you arm your zed? Weapons, armour or tinsel.
Message too long. Click here to view the full text.

Re:Supply Warehouses & Industrial Parks Brotherhood Of The Tentacle 15/02/02(Mon)08:48 No. 5345 ID: 506f4d

Supply warehouses are what most market chains uses nowadays to get their products. Basically real easy to find. Industrial parks is what I'd look for things that I can build with. Earlier I mentioned junkyards they're easy to get into without any hassle.

Have fun being trampled or shot because Jamal had his hand on the can of beans first and you wouldn't let go.
Honestly though, I'd grab a bunch of cash and go to the stores no-one would think to loot (specialty stores and the like, just some fun shit i couldn't afford before the habbening) just to get out and get some action but not too far in danger's way. If there's no cashier i just leave the money (it'll be useless soon anyways) and if there's actually a cashier there, I'll leave the brave sonofabitch manning his post a weapon that I don't really need that might help him out, like a spare crowbar that i'd have in my bag or something.

That Guy 15/05/28(Thu)18:42 No. 5394 ID: 25fc56

We roleplayed through this scenario as a tabletop RPG. My group decided to first raid a nearby store which stocked both food and hunting ammo. That was an obvious choice.

The more interesting choice was the second place we raid -- an adult novelty store. We went there looking for batteries, but we came away with all sorts of handy stuff. Those vinyl costumes are surprisingly bite-resistant.

Cancer has a strange quality where the primary tumor releases cells into the blood stream and forms secondary sites,
>these are generally benign and otherwise undetectable, but when the primary tumor is removed it triggers a chemical marker that activates the secondary sites. Hence why we use chemotherapy before and after surgery: eliminate those secondary sites before they turn into another tumor (and hopefully before killing he patient).

The highlighted portion is not how metastases works, and 'chemical markers' is not the reason for therapies being used following surgery. A benign tumor does not infiltrate other tissues, only grows in place sometimes putting physical pressure on surrounding organs and blocking ducts or whatever.
A malignancy infiltrates other tissues, and portions break away (embolise) into the bloodstream or lymph vessels and spread throughout the body. This is the reason why lymph nodes closest to tumor sites are biopsied: they are like strainers and cancer cells will stick there if they've made their way inside a vessel. Before a primary tumor is noticed the metasteses may have spread significantly, but is still undetectable. Depending on cancer type they can continue to grow slowly until someone who was in remission has a recurrence with the secondary sites growing and causing new problems.
Cancer cells are not intelligent, and do not communicate with each other. They're cells that can't self-destruct due to damage to that portion of their DNA.
