Was Oasis another fake band like Billie Eyelash and Backstreet boys? Their popularity and immediate drop off the radar makes it look like they were industry fluff.

What's a "fake" band.

I just told you, it's manufactured. Record companies would get an idea from old men to compete with others in a trend and cast auditions to make the band. Backstreet Boys was one, and Eyelash was a production company's exec's children getting a spot through nepotism.

As do I, I have a lot of their songs in my car and watch interviews with the boys. They just appeared and disappeared so it seems like the industry just forget them.

The industry only cares about what's selling right now. You could use the same argument for all those alternative rock/pop punk boy bands from the early-to-mid 2000s. Remember Son of Dork? I don't. In a sense you are right, these bands are manufactured. A lot of them are just put together to push whatever music is popular at the time, then when the people move on they're left forgotten. A lot of people forget that one of the most famous and controversial bands in history, the Sex Pistols, were manufactured like this. Malcolm McLaren, the bands manager, was just trying to make the group as provocative and attention-grabbing as possible. He even fired the founding member of the band because he didn't fit McLaren's idea for the bands image.

yeah but when you say their drop off the radar it makes it sound like everyone forgot about them which they didn't, i feel like most people are fairly familiar with oasis. There's a pair of fictional character in Lost (one of the biggest tv shows of all time) directly and very obviously inspired by the bros from Oasis.

Record companies pick what to sell. When Kurt blew his brains out the record industry shifted which killed bands like Alice in Chains, who just gave the fuck up basically. Wikipedia has a great article on them
