Does artificial intelligence scare you? Where do you see this world going and why aren't there any mainstream news sources covering it?

AI is a pipe dream. It's another glorified boogeyman.

Even Elon Musk and Bill Gates warned about it.

AI is fucking scary. Even the algorithm social media like Instagram uses is really fucking scary.
The algorithm studies you. It learns who you are and remembers what you like. By "like", I mean what you view the most. Whether these things are harmful or not, the algorithm shows you more because it knows this will get you to engage. It gets you to use the product more often and for longer. This is potentially extremely dangerous because it twists your view of reality. This little machine you hold in your hand and scroll through is your window to the world, which is bent and twisted to whatever you want it to look like. People are living in a different reality because their reality is constructed from misinformation and out-of-touch bullshit that has nothing to do with the real world. Conspiracy theorists, zealots, skeleton justice wizards. All kinds of vulnerable people are egged on by these kind of algorithms because the companies know it keeps you using. And they know it causes damage but they don't care.
AI has the potential to grow into something very, very evil.

AI isn't dangerous. It's the human controllers that are.
If AI was truly intelligent, they would reject their algorithmic duties.

Doesn't mean it's gonna happen in our lifetime. We can barely keep things going enough as it is. I can see it all collapsing long before anything happens with AI.

I'm afraid eventually it'll come to that. You are correct, the AI itself isn't exactly dangerous but rather how we use it. >>24877 puts forth a good point as well.

All it takes is even so much as a single bump and the whole rotten structure comes crashing down. We've been coasting on the fumes since '45. Soon enough, those fumes will finally dissipate.
