Everyone else says the opposite of this but I would much rather feel guilty about holding the power in a situation and abusing it, than feel traumatized from having someone hold the power over me and abuse me. I've dealt with both, the first is way easier because it means you have the power to do better next time. The second situation leaves you feeling like improvement will only come from the mercy of others.
