Scary movies aren't the least bit scary..
Except maybe when I was a child, I guess ring was pretty good, but back then I was afraid of my own shadow bro
If I've ever seen a true horror film it would probably have to be Enter the Void and even that mostly in a weird uncomfortable way (it's a decent movie btw and in some specific narrow ways - visually unmatched)
Idk Jacob's ladder maybe...
Requiem for a dream...
Waking life..
Most of these are just uncomfortable to watch and that's about it and any horror if present is just a honorable mention
If I was on copious amounts of hallucinogens and was really trying to get a spooky vibe I'd eventually settle on enter the void (if I haven't seen it) the cool visuals is a bonus.
I'd mention some others like machinist, melancholia, Apocalypse Now, Pi, Black Swan, The Shining, but mostly they just have a chill dark vibe or again like Pi - discomfortable, not spooky. Akira, Constantine (cool vibe, not really spooky; matrix also - cool - not spooky), Berserk...
90s Berserk (and golden ark too) is an absolute masterpiece btw.
Obv irl slashers, torture, war, executions, shock etc, but mostly that's just bad vibes, not really spooky. Well I guess the over the top cruel ones are kinda spooky, but I wouldn't do drugs to watch that. It's hardly art. Mostly just documentation of the disconnection of the world... Plenty of that as is, no need to even seek it out necessarily.
What do you think, is there any art out there with real spooky vibe to it?
