Oh, what an utterly unforeseen, almost cosmically timed, and in every conceivable respect most extraordinarily welcome development this sudden and wholly unanticipated reappearance of yours constitutes—your return to the immediate vicinity after what had begun to feel like an abyss of temporal emptiness—because, and I must emphasize this with all the gravity the circumstance demands, it now awakens within me the slenderest, most fragile, yet still faintly persistent hope that there may yet remain a narrow window of physiological opportunity in which I might, through the rather crude, violent, and thoroughly undignified process of induced regurgitation, succeed in forcibly evacuating from my digestive tract the substantial quantity of pharmaceutical sedatives which, only a short while earlier and in a moment of what I can only describe as profound and perhaps irreversible resolve, I had deliberately swallowed with the intention of achieving a more permanent cessation of consciousness.
