2024 All New MCU...Grey Hulk? Green Hulk? She-Hulk? Anonymous 22/04/19(Tue)19:38 No. 25960

File 165038993316.jpg - (125.37KB , 960x540 , Grey Hulk Green Hulk She-Hulk.jpg )

An opportunity for Marvel Studios to have Grey Hulk be a founding member of an all new Avengers superhero team (to debut simultaneously with the superhero team X-men?) when the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins anew (with the superhero team Fantastic Four now being the corner stone of the MCU instead of Iron Man which happened in 2008?).

Or maintain the Green Hulk as a founding member? Or have She-Hulk be a founding member instead of Green Hulk (which happened in 2012) in the all new MCU?

The Hulk, a character with immense power and limited intelligence, has proven to be one of Marvel's most memorable heroes. His overt appeal lies in his embodiment of ferocious brute force. Yet there is more to The Hulk than meets the eye.

Like The Sub-Mariner (1939) before him, The Hulk sometimes appears to be a villain, and his destructive rages allow readers to blow off steam of their own. At the same time, however, The Hulk's ugliness and limited intellect make him a pathetic figure. When he first appeared in 1962, writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby depicted The Hulk as a crafty monster,

but the early decision to diminish his brain power somehow made him more attractive. For one thing, it provided a greater contrast with the creature's alter ego, Bruce Banner.

Another early change was also significant: at first The Hulk was a nocturnal being, summoned by the sunset, but before long, Banner's emotions became the trigger that transformed him into a rampaging beast. In short, symbolically The Hulk became force guided by feeling.

Bruce Banner, however, is almost pure intellect. He represents science in the service of the military, an alliance symbolized by his romance with a general's daughter. A researcher employed to create weapons for the government, Banner was out of touch with his feelings and unaware of his power; only when his "gamma bomb" turned him into The Hulk was he forced to confront his deeper emotions.

And he needs his crude, embarrassing other self more than it needs him: when an experiment temporarily divided man and monster into separate entities with independent existences, Banner began to waste away.

On the surface, The Hulk may suggest the dangers of anti-intellectualism, but when he lashes out minslessly, he frequently finds the right target. His instinctive impulses serve as a reminder that our physical and emotional lives are not to be despised. And the ultimate irony, of course, is that brilliant Bruce Banner, builder of nuclear bombs, is actually far more dangerous than the brutish Hulk.

File 165289483566.jpg - (315.95KB , 1000x1521 , RCO005_1469398589.jpg )

At an Army base in the desert, Dr. Bruce Banner is readying the first test of his invention, the G-Bomb. General "Thunderbolt" Ross wants to know why Banner keeps delaying the test. His daughter Betty tries to calm him down, with little success. Banner tells Ross that the final countdown has begun. His assistant, Igor, demands that Banner share his work so that someone may check his calculations. "I don't make errors, Igor," says Bruce, and, when Igor threatens him, "You know how I detest men who think with their fists."

Banner takes a last look at the bomb with binoculars. He notices a teenage boy in a car, tells Igor to halt the countdown, and hurries after the boy in a jeep. Igor, who supposedly defected to the U.S. from the Soviet Union, is a spy and decides not to stop the countdown so that America will lose its greatest nuclear physicist.

Banner gets the boy into a trench, but, before he can jump in himself, the G-Bomb explodes! Gamma rays saturate Banner's body.

Hours later, Banner regains his senses. The boy, Rick Jones, who drove onto the base on a dare, brought him back to base.

Banner waits for some kind of symptoms to appear. When night falls, Jones turns on a "radio," actually a Geiger counter. Its clicking increases, and Banner changes into a huge grey figure. "Get out of my way, insect," says the figure, shoving Jones aside. He pushes through the wall, wrecks a jeep full of soldiers when it hits him, and wanders off to hide. Jones follows.

The thing that was once Banner, with Jones trailing him, sneaks past the soldiers trying to find him and finds Banner's cabin. Inside, Igor is trying to find Banner's notes. He shoots at the Hulk, without effect. The Hulk takes away his gun and crumples it with one hand. He picks up Igor and slams him down on a lab bench. Jones notices a folder taped to the bottom of a large beaker, labeled "Top Secret: Report on Gamma Ray Bomb," and takes it. The Hulk picks up a photo of Banner and says, "I - I know that face!! But it is weak - soft!! I hate it! Take it away!" Jones reminds him that he is Banner.

The message finds its way to the Gargoyle, a deformed Soviet scientist and secret agent, who travels by submarine and short-range missile to the desert. Banner and Jones take a jeep out into the desert before night falls, in case he changes again. He does change, and the Hulk wrecks the jeep. Their mind detector puts them on the trail of Bruce Banner, "the most brilliant scientific mind on Earth," so that they can gauge the potential resistance to their coming invasion. Banner and Jones meet General Ross and Betty Ross as they set out "to conduct a little scientific research." They go to a cave Banner found; he has set up a ten-foot-thick concrete door that he hopes will keep the Hulk contained at night. Jones promises to seal and reopen the door for him. Suddenly, a beam pushes Banner and Jones against a wall and holds them there!

The captain, Torrak, tells Banner that their fleet is ready to invade Earth and that their mastery of magnetism makes them invincible. Banner refuses to talk. The Toad Men send Jones back to Earth in a "plastic cylinder." The ship passes behind the Earth, thus bringing night and turning Banner into the Hulk. He bursts out of his cell and locks up the crew. With soldiers breaking down the door of his lab, Banner readies the gun. They break through. Jones holds them back with a fire hose. The gun fires! The gamma beam reverses the polarity of the Toad Men's magnetic propulsion, "sending the Toad ships spinning across the void of space, helplessly out of control... forever!"

For saving the world, Banner is cleared of treason. Betty tries to tell Ross that Banner is a good man, but Ross still suspects there is a connection between Banner and the Hulk...

Continuity Notes Anonymous 22/08/01(Mon)13:12 No. 26189

Starting this issue the Hulk has green skin as opposed to the gray skin monster seen last issue. Production wise, this was an editorial decision as it made for easy coloring. However, this was worked into continuity. Some of the following facts about these early transformations were later explored:

Incredible Hulk #324 reintroduced the Grey Hulk.
Incredible Hulk #377 revealed that the Grey Hulk was one of many parts of Bruce Banner's fractured personality.
Incredible Hulk (Vol. 2) #19 theorizes that the Hulk's transformations at night might have been the night-time transformations stemmed from Banner's childhood fear of the dark.

The Toad Men are actually members of the Tribbitite race, their real name was identified in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #11.

At his apartment, Hawkeye’s cupboards are bare and his next paycheck for his day job (at Cross-Technological Enterprises) doesn’t come for days. He heads over to the mansion hoping to raid Jarvis’s pantry.

Elsewhere, the villainous Egghead is grousing over the fact that none of his criminal schemes have panned out. Based on a comment by Anna, his flirtatious maid, he concocts a scheme to “buy” the world: he intends to find a formula to provide eternal youth, something that virtually everyone would pay handsomely to attain. Naturally he intends to go about it via criminal means.

Hank Pym has been incarcerated on Rikers’ Island as he awaits trial. His old nemesis Whirlwind confronts him there. The villain taunts him by saying he’s getting out soon and intends to pay a visit to Jan. Hank becomes enraged and attacks him; prison guards haul him away.

Shortly afterwards, an explosion occurs and Whirlwind is freed from imprisonment.

However, it is the first line-up to include Moonstone, who would go on to be a pivotal member of the villainous team and of the Thunderbolts.
