Cob home general thread Modern Mom 13/03/16(Sat)20:55 No. 1065 ID: f32f24 [Reply]

Serp /jew/. I need ideas today.

I'm wanting to build a cob house somehow, preferably outside of the U.S. in a country such as Wales, Canada or the like (basically somewhere forested with good hills, mountains and rivers). Ideally I'd like to start an eco-village, but let's stick with the former for now.

How might I go about doing this? Currently I'm working two jobs (both minimum wage, I'm afraid) in order to pay my current living expenses and save up whatever little I can. I may be attending community college soon to work toward an Associates degree, but I'm not convinced college alone can help me achieve this, as I think I'd be getting myself farther in debt than necessary or even practical in this current economy. Basically, I don't want to become a debt slave after I earn my Associates if I can avoid it. I've also been considering focusing on a specific trade for awhile before transferring to a bigger university first in the hopes of being that much better off.

How might I be able to earn up enough credit (and whatever else might be necessary) to buy arable land in another country to do this? Ideally I'd like to go completely off-grid, but that requires me owning land and a home (desiring cob design in my case) first.

I guess I'm looking for a few basic answers and general insight. My questions are:

>Is college (for either Associates or Bachelors degrees) really necessary to get my feet off the ground?
>Would it be worth my time instead to focus on an immediate trade (probably something like railroading, welding, carpentry or forestry)?
>What are the stipends outside of the U.S. for buying land? I'd like to shoot for Wales if at all possible.
>What are the regulations for cob home design?
>Any further thoughts or ideas?

Man, I know how exhausting two jobs may be, so be careful because you can easily lose concentration and risk your safety at work.

I'm a musician going into my last year of grad school. Long story short, my parents have paid for everything up until this point and aggressively kept me from making my own money. Now they've let me know that they can't support me once I've graduated, and that my options are to either come home and work from there or come up with something on my own.

I'd actually kill myself if I was stuck at home, not to mention that home is hours away from any major city and any serious players that I'd want to work with. The last time we spoke, I told my parents that I plan to move to Philadelphia instead of coming home. It took a lot of butting heads, and they were pretty disparaging of the idea, but they finally accepted it and told me to come up with a plan of action.

I've been seriously stressing for the past few days, but then I remembered those crafty /jew/s whose posts I read when I was younger. If any of you veterans are still around, I'd love some help in workshopping a strategy. Basically, the objective is moving into Philly affordably and keeping myself afloat long enough to start putting together income in my actual line of work. Below are a few extremely general points, if you guys have some more specific ideas of options for each of these I'd be very appreciative.

THE PLAN:
>Move to Philadelphia
I've only started looking into available apartments/townhouses/houses in the area, but I know I'll need something that's under 1000 per month. If I can find something in the 700-900 range, I doubt that even a poor shmuck like me can fuck it up. Preference will be taken toward townhouses or houses, I don't think an apartment in that price range will have enough space for my instrument and the rest of my life.

>Get a job
This is where I could use a lot of advice. What kinds of "real" jobs could keep someone alive in that range of rent? I'm sure whatever I'm renting will be more expensive than that base number too, once utilities come into play. Ideally this would be some kind of day-oriented job with relatively flexible hours, so that I could still be free for evening/night rehearsals, jams, gigs etc. I'm very interested in bike delivery, although I know it'd be miserable with Philly's shitty roads. Manual labor also seems interesting, but I don't know what the pay's like.

Aw, this board is the epitome of what I do. I'll walk through my lifestyle. I've tried many things and kept only the things that have saved me money in the end. I don't care how others judge me, so I've taken things to the next level of weird:

My main motto in life when it comes to managing money is "Time is money". So even if I'm not at work, "chores" and other crap to me is considered work, or rather, unpaid work. So I deliberately avoid situations in which I'm forced to do more work than necessary (that is, by doing things the easier way).

1) I have carefully selected a place for me to live. One which is < 10 minute walking distance to my place of work. My job is perfect for me because I don't really interact with people much and I am sort of left to do my own thing (parcel courier). This ensures my employment because I cannot last 2 months in a customer service/work-with-others workplace without getting fired.

Also, note that this came first before everything else because it is top priority if you're looking to save money.

2) As a result, I no longer necessitate a motor vehicle. - $200 / 3 months for insurance, and $60/month for gas. And additional upkeep and maintenance expenses.

3) Rent your parking space out. +$50/month for me.

Holy crap I posted this thread 5 years ago, back when I was happy. Two years ago I went through trauma that turned my owrld upside down, and now I'm like 30 lbs heavier from the meds I'm taking.

Is there a time machine to when I posted this thread and start over? I know what I did wrong. The field I went into was bad.

What would be your tips to prevent impulsive spending?

I try to keep as less money as possible in my bank account because 1) I don't trust fucking kike bankers and 2) It is easier for me to just keep the money home and not just take whatever I want and pay by debit but I feel it's not effective enough.

I'm trying to stop impulsively spend my money on shit I don't need like alcohol and junk food but I didn't know just how the feeling of drinking crept back up on me while I've been on lockdown for 3 fucking months. I've gotten better in trying to stop alcohol cravings but overall, I would like to know your tips as to stop compulsive spending and learn to ''stash your cash''.

Know yourself. Meditate on your childhood. Try to figure out why it is that you loathe money and can't wait to get rid of it (or whatever). Just knowing will help.

My friend works three hours a week and makes 4000$ selling drugs.
I just can't justify working so hard any more, I get that there are risks but Jesus Christ the money.

What should I do Jew

Everything we do gets stored and treasured in the past forever, for the whole eternity. The deeds done, the loves loved and the sufferings suffered with courage and dignity. These are meaningful and justifiable, and no one can take it away from you. This is true wealth.

My parents own a grocery store and I use it to run various coupon scams. Scan an item, print a fake receipt and send them in with coupons you save yourself and they'll reimburse you full face value plus a dime per coupon.

Might work, but it would have to be an exceptionally shitty operation if they

1) Don't have cameras in/around the walk-in because you are NOT the first person to have this idea.

2) Don't have an inventory system that relies on more than just the head chef maybe remembering what they have in stock.

The most likely thing that will happen is you get caught the first time you try it, because they do have cameras but didn't tell anyone, getting you fired and possibly arrested for petty theft. If you're going to work for 8 hours anyway, might I suggest instead working a job that DOESN'T pay minimum wage so you can afford your own steaks? Or just work front-of-the-house at the same restaurant, and make bank on tips. The idea here isn't just stealing for the sake of stealing.
