I started with a criminal record for petty narcotics pos and a 'computer tresspassing' record guaranteeing me unemployment almost everywhere except manual labor. I was also living in a SRO in the worst area you can ever imagine, had no money, huge debt and couldn't even finish university so washed out in the second year due to poverty.

Any job will do. Some shitty manual labor position is great because then you also get some activity in so you aren't a fat bastard.

Easy jobs to get are landscaping (usually pays under the table cash), construction clean up, warehouse, or whatever you can find on your local Craigslist 'gigs' section. Alternatively there's the dreaded nightshift tech support. Look around for these on CL, or move to somewhere in your country where the jobs are. In Canada this means terribad mining and oilfiend work but it pays like $40/hr and there's nothing else to do up there, perfect for studying.

For me, I got a job at the post office and delivered mail, which meant I got off early and had lot's of time for school. Also consider institutions that will pay you to learn a trade, such as telephone companies and whatever else.

Basic income budget rule is 70/20/10

70% of your money goes to rent, food, clothing, your essentials.
20% goes to short term savings, like buying a multi core box with 32G+ ram for compiling programs (we'll get to this later)
10% goes to long term savings, like hookers in Thailand, emergency savings if you're ever laid off, I dunno.

To accomplish this I simply log into online banking after I'm paid and just move 30% of the money out of my account to savings like clockwork to prevent me blowing it on bullshit and impulse garbage.

Use this card for everything like groceries, gas whatever. Always, ALWAYS pay off the entire amount at the end of the month. This builds your credit to god like levels. You will need this later when you launch your own startup and need funding.

http://www.khanacademy.org/ - retake Grade 11/12 math and make sure you're solid in algorithms and precalculus. They're only a few minute long lectures that's all you need. Physics are also online.

http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/#electrical-engineering-and-computer-science Take some of these courses, follow a plan like the one's laid out for regular students: http://www.eecs.mit.edu/academics-admissions/undergraduate-programs

I took 6-3 and a few 6-2 courses, the one's I could do without needing physical access to a lab. You considerably shorten the time it takes to finish these courses from a regular student. I would get off work @ 2pm, make some food and stream a lecture while eating it. Afterwards I'd do the assigned work. Then I'd fuck around with whatever, and do another lecture. Then go hang out with my girl. I did this everyday M-Friday while working. Weekends I took off.

Regular university they split up classes 2x a week or 3x a week, you're doing it 2x a day and will blast through it in less than a few weeks, forget entire semesters. IF YOU DO THE WORK/LABS ASSIGNED, YOU WON'T FORGET THE MATERIAL.

Keep doing this and progress through the courses until you have basically given yourself an undergraduate degree in Eng/CompSci.

Now you have the knowledge, prove it to people. Start a security blog/status.net and write about whatever 0-day hacks you found in the Android source code. Write about game theory, contribute to the Tor project, or just contract yourself out to build websites for clients.

In my case I would modify AOSP for security, build it with SEandroid and sold my own devices. This is where your multi core 32G+ Ram box comes in handy because building AOSP takes forever otherwise. I created ultra secure handsets and sold them on craigslist probably to drug dealers, but nevertheless no longer needed to do my old job anymore.

The problem with coding F/T for a startup is that they will overwork you to death to push out their release and often never pay any overtime or extra benefits. You also have to do fucking queer team bulding corporate society faggot tree. Possibly, MAYBE if the company is bought out you may see some share profits but unlikely. More likely they will buy the company, screw you and move the coding to India or Ireland or somewhere else leaving you unemployed. You'll also have to contribute serious time to some other guy's project so he can make millions. If you're going to work that much, be your own boss.

If you want to startup your own company this is where your platinum credit rating comes in handy. Nobody will turn you down for funding. Startup any bullshit cloud application or anything to do with the medical/heath industry such as adapting CryptDB to a product that can be used for medical offices or other sensitive data. Build it up and shop it for a takeover, you will sell your company quickly.

Now you have money from your sold startup, saved money from all your work either bulding sites or whatever you decided to do, and a platinum credit rating. You're ready to bankroll your own startup something you can truly 100% own and build from scratch however you want. Maybe you want to bankroll an open source project and don't care about the money because you already have enough from selling your last company. Maybe you want to design and build your own handsets and the operating system that they come with (because the AOSP kernel is fucking ridiculously huge and full of bugs)

- But I must have a piece of paper from a recognized University!
No coding or startup looking for partners gives a fuck about paper, they care about proof like portfolios and demonstrations. Moxie Marlinspike has zero post secondary and sold his mobile security project to Twitter for a shitload of money, and now even works for them on a contract basis. No paper.

- I want to be a doctor can I do it online for free?
Fuck no obviously. But you can take most of the required courses online for free then go apply directly into second year, once again showing them proof you know what you're doing through demonstration/auditing courses.

- Can I get some sort of certs for all this?
If you must, stanford university offers certs for their online courses. Can always pay for all those bullshit online security certs as well.

The business I started for myself (after I sold the other one) is awesome and I hardly have to work since most of it is automated. I don't do any 'team building events', I don't have to worry about release dealines and dealing with slipshod coworker code, I don't have to answer to anybody (even my customers I don't have to answer to, my software is sold as-is and there's never been any problems, esp no security problems from all the proper coding I learned from 6-3 courses) and the way I've set it up I don't even have to offer customer support since I built it correctly the first time so any idiot can use it.

No reason you can't do this too. Do you have 2 years to spare? Good 2go.

More or less. Doing exactly what OP did? Maybe. Using it as a guide to get you mad dosh? Fuck yeah. I ended up going to step 4, 5 & 6 by joining a trade using the job I got from step 1 to get my foot in the door. Now they're paying my ass to get me a degree and I get a sweet cushy job.

True getting job in India is difficult so many go to foreign countries. Old people sit n insufficiently grossily slowly work just to hold their position n the much more capable youth sit at home(part time job here is limited very limited) so basic average person is bachelor . M 19 n jobless (not bachelor yet) if i need to earn i may need to take up call center jobs which I won't prefer(working 10 to 12 hrs for 150$ a month is waste of time i would rather b bachelor with extra knowledge crammed in in extra time ) i m pretty sure in the rat race i m gonna b left behind n trampled upon

In less malleable verbiage...
>Waving your big dick around and disingenuously framing it as a step-by-step guide is neither advice nor useful to anyone not in their adolescent stage of life

It's fantastic if you're a slightly undermotivated late-teenager who spent the past half-year of his life smoking weed and lurking IBs before realizing he has to do a thing in order to graduate from the confines of his parentally provided tenancy.

It's quite the other thing if you're an older shut-in NEET who barely even has contact with the outside world despite nonstop attempts at obtaining profitable income. Such a situation is worsened by the addition of actual mental/processing conditions such as lower-functioning autism, severe anxiety, and so on to the mix.

Like I said earlier, if you're some typie fuck who's at the prime of his life anyway, you'll probably get somewhere with this Peterson-tier shitpost. But don't act like it's some revelation from God that is equally applicable to all anons in all situations everywhere when it's blatantly not. lol

It's been a little more than 2 years, but I'll update anyway. My math training wasn't particularly useful, I did get about halfway through calculous; however, even with that the college level programming assignments were too insane for me to understand. So I changed tactics, and starting studying IT. I did about a year an a half at a trade school, then dropped out after getting a couple of certs and a job in a Data Center. I did that for about 6 months and realized I hated all of the pressure that was attached to device uptime, so I studied penetration testing and applied at a few Information Security Jobs. I was able to find one and start at a higher tier and now I'm working my way up from that company while continuing to study pentesting certs. I'll be making 6 figures soon enough, sometimes you have to follow your own path in life.

I come back to this post every once in a while and sort of stack myself up against it. I was running a dropshipping business for a while but am now in my second year of college for cyber security. It's alright and all but I can tell that some of the info is a little outdated or the teaching methods aren't the best.

Would it be a better idea to strike out on my own without paying for college? I wonder if it would be easier to take courses online like you've outlined here and try to make it somehow? I just feel like college is too slow paced for me I need to be constantly learning

Beautiful thread by the way

I think you would be better off on your own, the trade school I went to was shit and I wasted so much of my time that would have been better used teaching myself. Go after meme certs to get by the HR wall. Look into elearnsecurity (I'm in the pentesting path myself, even the eJPT has great information) if you want to actually know your shit. The analyst job I got was impressed enough with my actual knowledge that they started me at a higher tier.

Don't take people trying to help you with guides has dick waving. It's an anonymous image board anyhow. Not like they're getting any real cred here. It's merely an attempt to help. If someone is more fucked the guide can fix, find help that can fix that someone. Yes an autistic shutin is different then a relaxed teenager. $2.00 may give one 4 ramen and a bag of peas and carrots. Soup kitchens and the like are definitely fun. We have the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, explain this if you dare. Intense structure, though. Anyway, used to get food from there occasionally, so the side
one could tap on the method to get basic food. A Catholic worker would pull the safe door open and offer very basic food.
Reason for safe window to distribute food to homeless types. One could imagine.
No really, it has been totally fun as fk.

Computer trespassing is real? What did this happen in high school? You’re record should have been sealed if it did. Landscaping, hardscape/construction around here you have to be Mexican to get hired at those jobs just like working boh at any nice restaurant or a chipotle you have to be Mexican to get hired and promoted around here, postal workers you usually have to be black around here and same for driving a metro bus but I would rather have a labor job than a driving job. I try to put aside savings every month but end up having to spend emergency money because of my addictions and I’m homeless. Idk what your 32 gb box is but I have every piece of tech I will need for the next ten years until they come out with hologram VR technology I just need a place to use it, but I love using old tech though, probably because of nostalgia. I have 6 cards I can’t pay off because it costs too much to live even being homeless I spent over $3000 in September and barely got to do anything fun it all went towards gas and meds. I have taken intermediate algebra 7 times since hs and never passed because I don’t want to take his classes over again for college (I dropped out in 10th grade but I was always in sped). Step 5 is too complex for me too understand and I don’t have the attention span to learn it. Sorry I would rather slit my wrist than have to code and program on computers all day in an office for a job. I don’t have a criminal record but I’m going to court next Wednesday for a misdemeanor possession ticket and I really don’t care whether I get one or not it’s not gonna make a difference in my life I will still be homeless it’s pretty much screwed no matter what when youre intellectually disabled but I enjoy my life living in my car I just wish I had a place to cook, shit shower and shave sometimes but I get by pretty well and I’m really good at this now since I’ve been doing it since iwas 19 (I’m 29 now) and I can maintain pretty well but i need money like there’s no tomorrow I will get by no matter what though 👌👍

Ok, I can't argue with that. But I've come up with an interesting way to save money.

Whenever I save money, be it a discount or bottle bills/can recycling. I do like this:

For every penny I save, I make a transfer order between my accounts the next salary/dole day. I also enter some kind of comment, like DiscountMilk 20211201 or RecyclingOwn <date> or RecyclingFound <date>.

Yeah, there's lots of homeless and migrant beggars here. So I don't go on can hunting. Only my own bottles and those I find in the locked recycling/bulky rubbish room goes there.

I use a spreadsheet program to keep tabs on the monthly commit (and to predict my future liquid assets). As of now, it's almost 20% of my net income for December. B-)

I used to do almost the same thing before it was a montly commit. But then I moved the money saved to the savings account the same day of the purchase. I discovered that it didn't really do anything. But the monthly commit just simply werks! This November I bought myself a pair of new winter boots without any hesitation nor regret.

And whenever I have to use a little money from the savings account, I immediately put the same amount of money into the monthly commit and call it OwnLoan <date>.

So, waddaya think? B-)

This anon speaks the truth, i managed to go from neet to a solid job in about a year by learning software development by myself, any retard can learn to code, you don't need math beyond basic arithmetic, and most jobs don't give a fuck about degrees, here's exactly what i did:
If you don't wanna delete Windows just dual boot or use a Virtual Machine, it'll improve your computer's performance, workflow and it just generally works better for programming, also if you go for a minimalist distro like Arch or Gentoo, the installation process will teach you a fuck ton about how computers work:
You can think of HTML and CSS as the basic building blocks for a wesbite, with HTML being the structure and content and CSS being the styling, it's actually pretty straightforward to learn, you'll grasp it in a few weeks tops, to makes the context stick recreate websites and make fake websites for businesses like restaurants or barbershop (This is important, in a few steps you'll see why):
If HTML is the structure of a website and CSS is the style, JavaScript is the functionality, this is a bit trickier to grasp but as long as you do all the homework it'll soon click, read The JSWay from 3,2,1.. Code to Write Functions, and do all of the homework:
Now that you've actually made some stuff, you might wanna use GitHub to post it online, this is specially useful to quickly test your code, as well as working on a team which you'll do once you're employed:
You wanna be able to host your website, i highly recommend Netlify since it's free and it's literally just drag and drop, once you get clients you want to buy a registrar for them and host your work there, which leads me to..
What you've learned is pretty much all you need to start earning some money with your skillz, doing this will not only make you learn a lot faster, but it's a great way to show future employers you're not just some schlub programming wannabe, this has multiple steps so i'll break it down into sections:
-6a. Online Presence
You want to make yourself a portfolio and a LinkedIn account, for your portfolio just find some templates, all it needs to do is look pretty for non-programmers, post some of your mock websites but don't make it obvious that it's homework, try to pass them as real projects, as for your LinkedIn, try your best to make it look pretty, it will be your most powerful tool for job searching, also use it to network with other programmers near your area
-6b. Search for customers
Tell everyone you know about you being a software developer and wanting to freelance, then make a list with every local business that doesn't have a website and start going to their places and propose them your offer, i don't care if you're the most autistic motherfucker in the world, all you need to know is follow this simple script, and it gets a lot easier the more you do it:
-"Hi, do you have a website where i could see your [insert whatever they do]
-"Ok, another question, is the person in charge of this place avaibale?"
If they say no, ask them when can you find them, and if you have contact info to reach them out, if they say yes, tell them you're a local developer that's been looking for local businesses to offer your services to, and ask them if they're interested in having a meetup to discuss proposal, budget, etc..
The moment you get their info, INMEDIATELY find a template and add their logo/company name/colors/ etc... and then INMEDIATELY try to arrange a meeting, speed is the name of the game here, you don't want your possible client to get stolen by someone else
You'll need some thick skin, you'll get rejected A LOT, but if you push through and visit about 5 places daily, you'll eventually find a client
-6c. Legal stuff
Look for contract templates for your specific country, you might want to add a couple of things, the things you ABSOLUTELY MUST have are as follows:
- A percentage of your pay in advance in order your client wants to rip you off, usually i ask for 30%
- A section that removes responsibility if anything goes wrong with the site, the site might eventually fail for whatever reason, but you don't want them to pin the fault on you
- A section that states you as the rightful owner of the website's rights, this is in case you want to add those projects to your portfolio.
Also, look up how taxes work for freelancing, if they got Capone and Dread Pirate Roberts, they'll get you as well
Go through Objects and Arrays on The JS Way, learn about Object Oriented Programming, this will be a bit easier since you already have JS foundations mastered:
React is a JavaScript library meant to build UIs and it's your last step towards being a hireable front-end developer since it's one of the most in-demand technologies to learn nowadays, almost every modern website uses it since it allows to do complex shit fairly easily, also you can learn React Native to build mobile apps:
It can be either a paid customer, an open source contribution or a pàssion project, but invest a lot of time in this, since it'll show everything you've learned so far to future employers
Congrats, you are now a professional Frontend Web Developer, now all you need to do is find a template for your CV and start applying to jobs, make sure to never just click submit, that'll almost guarantee you'll get ignored, find the hiring manager for the company, and send them a message so you can make sure an actual human is reading your CV, apply to about 10 jobs daily using this method:
That's it! If you wanna dive in deeper or genuinely fell in love with coding, i would recommend learning backend web dev as well (That's what i'm doing right now), but if this 20 something year old depressed beaner can do it, then surely yall anons living in the most powerful country in the world can do it as well

For me the problem is getting that first job when you are homeless and broke. Most companies won't just hire some random hobo who comes in to them with a resume he made at a library. Especially if that resume indicated that he's over 30 and is lacking a history of employment or volunteering (yes seeking his first job ever in middle age), has not completed high school, doesnt have a clue where his talents lie, has no skills or qualifications, and doesn't even have a license to drive yet. Most entry level jobs require you to apply online, and as a homeless guy you can either lie, provide the address of some shelter you've been at, or give up on applying to those jobs. It's a hard knock life at the absolute bottom, simply acquiring basic documentation (like social insurance) is quite the challenge in itself. What about the fear and anxiety that comes with trying to step into a role of responsibility like employment fo the first time ever? The kind that prevents you from even attempting to apply online and just waste your time with procrastination activities you don't actually enjoy, but serve as a way for your brain to protect you from the possibility of failure (and its consequences).
