You should check out Black Opal by (IIRC) Stephen Heisel. It was a really good read, got pretty risque out of nowhere for a second too

Check out the sea stories of Percy Westerman like Mystery Island, Nameless Island and Midshipman Raxworthy. They are classic old adventure stories.
