* doing cancer prevention, policy and addiction research

* might switch to international mental health research

I have more tasks!

After long consideration and discussion with my existing supervisor at the CCl, he's happy for me to do my project with the Vietnamese boss instead, if he Vietnamese boss'll take me. We figure I'll be a happier student doing what I love, and it's still early days so the little background reading I've already done isn't exactly a trail a forgone opportunity! Now, our first deadline is the 18th of March where I am to submit a project proposal by. I will send he Vietnamese boss the template given by the course coordinator and my draft response. My idea would be to do a systematic review first, then do the data analysis in semester 2.

Now I getter tell Tony what's up

Tell Dallas too

Tell the Vietnamese boss I Couldn't find the primary research to a do a review project on monitoring and research - meta research which I woulda preferred

/jew/, I have free utilities at my pad. Is there anyway I can take advantage of this while it lasts? Can I bottle up my power like piss and sell it for later? Bitcoin mining?

Isn't it a bit late to be doing bitcoin mining as the difficulty of mining blocks is proportional to the power being put towards mining? To make any sort of income you need to build a rig specifically for mining with multiple graphics cards

You only need special hardware if you're paying for electricity. If you can find a group with a low work requirement, you can make a little bit with bitcoin mining.

You can also look at altcoins who are smaller and you might be able to slip under the minimum with a general use computer.

Kind of related topic, at my new job I'm in control of a sparsely used dumpster. Anyone have experience cancelling their garbage collection? Does the city/state get on you about that?

Extreme coupons Modern Mom 15/08/10(Mon)21:59 No. 2644 ID: 885a14 [Reply]

I witnessed a show where families used coupons to reduce their checkout bills by ridiculous amounts.
A girl was shopping for eligible items, they weren't very useful and she was getting huge quantities. The final bill was $680 with all her coupons she reduced it to $27. For the quantity of crap she had that's outrageous, she could start her own shop.

How did she get those coupons? Aren't they one per customer or something? If you know tell me of the weirding ways of the coupon clippers.

When I worked at Jewel, I actually saw a person start making money with the coupons she used. Which meant the manager came and asked her to leave. So don't go over board with it.

You can use a limit of usually 10 dollars off and then the cashier will have to manually allow it. I remember there used to be coupon generator threads on /b/ but then they died out. Don't know why I miss those.

I gave up work in a warehouse, because they were moving further from where I live. The commute would be just ridiculous, and the expenses - double, if not tripple! Being a drone is not OK in my book.
So I have a choice now - mooch off of girlfriends parents I live with OR take a part time job, as a "sanitary technician" in a local police station.
I want to know your opinion, everything really. Until this day it never occurred to me, that I would also have to clean shitters (which I'm quite fine with, and proficient, also). So lets hear it! Any cleaners here, part time workers or both?

Modern Mom 16/04/23(Sat)10:28 No. 2824 ID: 149c6f

You could at least start with the sanitation job. It's a local police station, not an international airport or a high-rise office building. Put in your hours, skate out of there once it's done, and save what you can.

Maybe hard work on your part will be recognized, who knows. Or just be a drone; it doesn't matter. My view is, any hour you spend earning a wage is an hour you've most likely avoided incurring debt. My current job started as what seemed to be a 2 week temp job helping a local company get their customer paperwork into appropriate files. Almost 4 years later I'm an indispensable cog in my national department. It pays shit (relatively), but the OT is constant and it allows me my freedom and my ability to afford my lifestyle, frugal as it is.

Mooching off your gf's parents is just a shitty and overall horrible idea. It will eventually sour all involved against you; first with the folks who lose financially, and then your gf, if you can't make anything of your loafing self. Nothing says turn-off quite like a date night postponed because you have to beg her dad for gas money.

I'm finally moving out! I paid a $100 in pre-bond, and will pay the other 180$ (for a total 280 in bond of 2 weeks) on Tuesday when I move in. Finally! Argh, so excited. Just kinda suprised the place is so cheap.

After work i mostly fuck around, not doing anything productive, and i want to change that.

Are there any means i can make money from home? I live in South America btw, so it would have to be something international. A couple bucks a day go a long way, i'll take a shot at anything (given it's legit).

Aw, this board is the epitome of what I do. I'll walk through my lifestyle. I've tried many things and kept only the things that have saved me money in the end. I don't care how others judge me, so I've taken things to the next level of weird:

My main motto in life when it comes to managing money is "Time is money". So even if I'm not at work, "chores" and other crap to me is considered work, or rather, unpaid work. So I deliberately avoid situations in which I'm forced to do more work than necessary (that is, by doing things the easier way).

1) I have carefully selected a place for me to live. One which is < 10 minute walking distance to my place of work. My job is perfect for me because I don't really interact with people much and I am sort of left to do my own thing (parcel courier). This ensures my employment because I cannot last 2 months in a customer service/work-with-others workplace without getting fired.

Also, note that this came first before everything else because it is top priority if you're looking to save money.

2) As a result, I no longer necessitate a motor vehicle. - $200 / 3 months for insurance, and $60/month for gas. And additional upkeep and maintenance expenses.

3) Rent your parking space out. +$50/month for me.

Depends on what sort of comfort you're referring to. Obviously not being stabbed in the feet by needles or anything. But generally if its uncomfortable (like sleeping on a massage table), you will adapt and over time think nothing of it. It's the adjustment there and letting your body adapt to the changes that might be the hard part.

I don't really find sentimental value in collectibles or physical objects, so maybe that just depends on the person. If you lack objects that you depend on (not need), you will always adapt to your current circumstances without them and put that want behind you. Or at least for me. To find comfort in nostalgic objects and such is like a fixation on something that the mind always wants. Take that fixation towards learning or something. I take solace in my online lectures on math and physics.

But, OP, what's your point in life? Being frugal is a virtue, yes, but in this summary you've not mentioned why you're saving this money, and you've not mentioned any sort of social interaction.

Don't you have friends that come over and question why you've plastic wrapped your house and are collecting lumber scraps, etc.?

Saving money has no purpose of itself. Are you planning on buying a sailboat and island hopping the Caribbean? Why do you so desperately need to save every cent?

Hello friends. I'm 18 years old and I'm getting kicked out of the house this summer.

I was just wondering if you guys had some tips on how should i stock up for this and what to do to prepare.

I live in Canada, I have about $3k saved up. I won't be finished highschool until middle of next year at best.

I was also thinking about joining the Canadian Forces.

So basically any Canadians here that know how to live cheaply or any sort of tricks I should know for living by myself?

Thanks guys.

I've seen a couple of international threads in there, but not a South American one, so I'm opening it with the hope that there's someone out there that knows a few tricks to make it easier to live in here with the whole inflation thing and such.
I in particular happen to be Argentinian, and my main issues are that I've been using the same pair of shoes for the last year, can't afford to take a bus in one of the bigger cities in the world, and (what happens to be way more relevant than the previous statements) my computer is about to crash in no time and I need to get one soon. Of course this is an open thread and you can discuss or ask whatever on earth you think is remotely relevant or constructive.
Also, clouds. They are beautiful and they are free.

Buying stocks is always good for inflation. The price of raw materials go up, prices of goods go up, stocks go up to meet that sweet spot anyway.
If you can't transfer money abroad then buying physical, certificated gold would be good. Gold is still a worse investment in the long run because it doesn't produce anything and just actually costs to store.

Long story short I might be getting an internship for a company in London, England over the Christmas holidays. I'm more in it for the work experience and resume than the money, but it's only a two-week placement and I've got to get there from Toronto. How can I do this without losing hundreds of dollars?
