Roll for survival, /zom/. The dead have risen and are eating the living. The last two digit decides what happens to you.

0-3 "Fuck this." You an heroed once you heard the news
4-6 You ignored the warnings. Your home was invaded. You're hiding in a room and it's only a matter of time until they find you.
>If you roll a 4, 5, or 6 then reroll. 0-4=You try to escape but you tripped over something and alerted the zombies. You're zombie bait.
>5-9= You successfully escaped the zombies in your house and are on your way to a rural piece of property.

7-8 You grabbed a good amount of supplies and made it out with little/no trouble. You're in good shape.

9 God help the poor zombie who finds you and your group of the perfect survivalists. You're well stocked with food and ammunition. You have a good sized team of people who know exactly what to do and how to survive this apocalypse. You've got plenty of stuff to keep you entertained for years to come. Your house is well guarded and you have the resources to maintain it. You'll make it out of this alive.

/zom/, I'm a military vet, and I know a thing or two about first aid in the field, but what was never clear to me is how to control severe arterial bleeding in the neck. In almost all cases of severe bleeding you would just apply a shitload of pressure to the wound and pinch off the artery at a higher point, but replicating this in the neck will shut the brain's blood supply down and will kill your patient. The best thing I can think to do is to clean the wound as best you can and suture it on the spot, but with uncontrolled bleeding this presents additional complications, not the least of which would be the swelling causing the sutures to pull free, potentially making the wound worse.

Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?

On topic though, he would most likely be fucked in the field, either you stop the blood from entering the brain, or he would bleed out. Blocking and then open for some fresh wound to the brain works in theory (like you do when you have a tournique on so the tissue below it wont die), but not really practical, as you would probably not manage to block it properly again.

You would need surgery by a surgeon and in a controlled environment.

so I heard that zombies sometimes get people to eat ice cream in order to preserve them in cryostasis - they call it brainfreeze

ice cream is just a tool used by our zombie overlords to control us without us realizing it

rise up fellow warmbloods, rise up and let us throw off the shackles of ice cream oppression

I'm back. I'm still working on getting down to two percent body fat and making myself an elite survivalist while preparing for any hostile scenario; zombies included. Ask me whatever you want and it will be answered by an expert.

That's what I thought...

Well anyway, I have gained almost twenty pounds from the beginning of this thread and have not done nearly any of my survival training or even very much fight training in six months. I'm not done with it or anything but I live in a world where it's not necessary right now nor what I need to focus my efforts on. Five of the pounds are rock hard, impressive muscle while the other fifteen are gut and titty. I know, hot. This rest of the year is all fitness and personal and spiritual enlightenment/becoming the best me I can be. I've been working on growing stronger and healthier plants and I haven't been vegan in nearly six months as I have grown very happy with my very omnivorous girlfriend. So beyond that; as I start a new battery of fitness and not really on being specifically "zombie ready" as much as more "anything ready", I am considering starting a new thread on fitness readiness for survival and wondering if I should let this thread dwindle away. Look, I mean very little real questions have been asked here and the few that are asked are not long lasting or replied to after clarification. My girlfriend tells me that people probably look at this as escape, like reading a science fiction book or comic and I can intellectualize that. I am having trouble getting why anyone would fixate very real time toward very unreal ideology WHILE presenting their ideas and platitudes of conduct and such as the best and brightest AND being "the real deal". It's like the people that say all the survivors of zombie movies are dumb, ARE the very people that would be groaned at for being dumb zombie movie survivors. Let's be smarter and real if we're going to be or at least maybe in this thread or my next. Please, I welcome anything here because it all connects if you can see how. Death to the Dead.

My roommate just told me his "If zombies happen" plan and man, it doesn't shock me but it sometimes surprises me to have someone's plan unfold and they not see the flaws in it. I told him the vehicle I would choose and the place I would take over as my fortification. He thought it was good but he had much different plans.
So I want to ask, what is the spectrum of YOUR plans? Not just your bestie but what would you do one one end of the spectrum and the other end? DO YOU have a back up and what is it?

File 136906836998.jpg - (46.15KB , 650x366 , 169848-bp-offshore-oil-rig.jpg )

dude, fucking oil rigs! they are completely isolated from shore and tower far above the waterline. even a bloated, floating zombie could never climb aboard. you would virtually never have to worry about security as long as you triple check the entire rig beforehand for zombies. Its a fucking floating fortress. the only thing you have to worry about would be survival.

they have their own living and medical facilities and many are stocked with up to 6 months food for an entire crew. Even if the food depletes, you can always go fishing. And unless the rig is extremely close to land, there is no danger of industrial pollution in the water from abandoned factories. they have their own distilleries, so fresh water will never be a problem. Since all are equipped to mine either oil or natural gas, power will be unlimited. Even if you don’t know how to operate the rig, there will surely be some storage tank you can generate power from. If not, maybe Wind or tidal powered dynamos could be introduced as a substitute.

The only thing i can think of that would be a downfall would be the maintenance. Corrosion will be the number one enemy, eventually winning out against all preventative measures. Some things could be maintained, but sensitive electronic gear, however, such as computers, radios, and medical machinery, will eventually go and will be the hardest to replace. Eventually, the entire complex will deteriorate to a rusty piece of shit in the middle of the ocean.

Unlike prisons and military bases, offshore oil rigs will be the first places abandoned. Within the first few days of an outbreak, workers will no doubt demand to get to their families, leaving the rig without a trained staff. If none of your group knows how to operate the machinery, learning might be difficult. Industrial accidents, explosions of stored oil and gas, may result from people operating the rig with no fucking clue what they are doing. And in the middle of the ocean, that’d be pretty bad. Probably the safest way to go would be just to shut down the drill and not try to operate anything.

Now all i need is a boat

I'm all for living on one but treat it as a structure and not a facility. Do not attempt to operate anything.

So, /zom/, do you guys have any plans on rebuilding civilization after the zompocalypse?

I always fantasize about having a little community with it's own little militia and having farmers feed our population by farming on the outskirts of town.

And what would be the best way to clear out a, let's say, 25,000 population town of zombies to make it safe? Fortifying it? Protecting from siege and raiders?

Also, kind of straying away from zombies here but, do you think we would ever get back to the point of space travel? I would like to think zombies would just bring upon a second dark age, and we would eventually get back on track with technological development.

Opinions?

Anyone looking to play some All Flesh tonight? We are running it on Maptools and teamspeak(Not required to talk if you don't want.) Its set at the start of the outbreak.

For those who love zombies and survival horror, or just in the mood to kill things. The point of the game is you make an everyday character(Cop, News Reporter, Plumber, Janitor, Paramedic..ect..) and try to survive.

Playing 11pmest.

Do not be so naive to think zombies will be dumb, or they won't benefit from sociopolitical infrastructure.

What do we do when we are the weaker majority, not the powerful minority?

>>4541
Dude, just when is this going to be? I mean "realism"? We're typing about the dead coming back to life to eat the living and take over the world... It's not only improbable, it's staggeringly so. I mean when in the Terminator franchise have they sent back a unit that just turns into nothing but nanites; these nanites being spread from host to host and augmenting humanity in subtle but very real ways that turn their future into our present that much more quickly? Never? because it would work and the protagonists would not have a way to fight it easily. These struggles are presented to give a sense of ease even if the ease is almost gone from any situation shown. Now "zombies", what would they gain by eating everyone in the world? Think of it like this, why are spiders not as big as people? The size they are now supports what and how they are; how they survive. Where would their changing size or even their numbers benefit what they are? It wouldn't so it more than likely won't change in any grand way so we conduct our actions as if they won't and we go to movies where they somehow can... This is all to illustrate that how a progression takes place, that's not always clear or knowable but anything that takes place in any grand to small way is made relatable by our constant present and that is the only realism we will face. If you took any movie that had huge special effects, even the worst ones of now and took them to the past in say like, the 1920's; people would lose their fucking minds at what they viewed. So no matter how "soon" you may feel this technology transition is coming even if it's for laughs and you don't believe what you typed, you have to see why it's fucking dumb to have put out there, right?

Who needs a safe house? Coax as many zombies as possible into following you and lead them all into a large warehouse or sturdy structure. Leave through the back door, seal that and the front doors up, and trap the hoard in the building behind you. Repeat as often as necessary around various venues. A decent sized warehouse can hold hundreds of infected at once.

Congratulations. The zombies will complacently hang around these prisons for the rest of their unlife, whilst you can make the most of the (mostly) emptied district.
